Generally higher Ghz will be better, but it all depends on what you use it for. Ghz and number of cores are things to look out for. But like you said a newer architecture processor can be better than an older processor with higher Ghz because the chip it's self is just more efficient and better. Some programs make good use of lots of cores, things like video encoding while other programs are single threaded and can only use a single core so higher Ghz would benefit it more.

If your looking for a good processor any of the Intel 2xxx series (Sandybridge processors) are very good processors and you should get one in your budget. Or any Intel i3/i5 will be good too, I would stay well away from Pentium and Celeron processors. They are very old tech. Core 2 duo and Quad are getting old now and will be easily out performed by a Sandybridge (any Intel with 2xxx as it's number i.e. Intel i3 2310M) but they would still be quite powerful chips. I know very little about AMD so I can't give any help with their processors. Sorry :)

Something like this might be good, http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Toshiba_Satellite_Pro_C660-219_1102629.html
That's a good website for buying laptops, pretty cheap and a decent selection, have a look through for something you might like.

Not with a clean conscience :P

The selection is much better on saveonlaptops but this is a good machine

It's got a i3 380M which is a good processor and it's within your budget. The graphics power of the laptop will be pretty poor, but I'm guessing that's not very important to you.
There is others there with the same processor but that's the first I found, so I linked it. Just go through the list and look at the specifications tab to find out what processor is in the laptop.

Well if you want good graphics in a laptop I don't think €500 will cover it. To get a good gaming laptop it's very expensive AMD or not. Did you consider a desktop?

What are you going to be using the laptop for?

Athlon architecture is old but still handy for the mundane. Phenom II is the current architecture it's about as good as the iCore series from intel. Sempron is way too old and so is Intel Celeron -run away from those.

I woeld get a Phenom II X4 probably. I have an X6 but you want to be a power user to want it. but i suppose theyre cheap enough

This seems to be the cheapest decent gaming laptop on the site.
    https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Dell_Inspiron_15R_1085130.html

I am basing my opinion on this site,
    http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_lookup.php?gpu=Mobility+Radeon+HD+5650
It's a list of all GPU's and has a ranking based on the GPU's score from a graphics card benchmark. I also was looking at laptops with an AMD Radeon HD 6470M and an NVIDIA® GeForce® 315M but both those cards are outperformed by the 5650 in that benchmark. The NVIDIA® GeForce® 220M you were looking at is the lowest GPU you can find so it won't give you much FPS in gaming.

I don't do much looking at laptops so I don't have any other sites I know that are good.
Sorry, I'm sure someone else will be able to help.

I haven't compared prices for laptops here, but I know scan is good so you might find a good one on it.

im looking at dell Inspiron 15r are they any good because i heard that dells have problems

If your looking at the one I posted then that's a pretty good choice :P But the Dell site is usually a little bit expensive.

I currently am using a Dell Inspiron 1525. Bought it almost 3 years ago now. Never had any issue with it myself. I know plenty of other people with Dell laptops(mostly Insprions) and none of them have given much bother either so I would have no problems recommending them. You generally don't hear anything about a product/company when people have good things to say, it's only when things go wrong people talk about it, so you will generally only hear bad things :)

Hang on, do you want an AMD CPU or GPU? Because you can use an AMD GPU with any CPU.
