New Phone

Going to get a new phone soon enough, budget is €250.

Looking at the Samsung Galaxy Ace atm, decent size screen, light weight, the keypad can be changed from Qwerty to normal which is a huge must and also that you can lock the keypad from turning to the size if you turn the phone on it's size.

Basically I'd be doing internet browsing, using betting and facebook apps mainly.

Any opinions and other suggestions for phones?

    Cheers.

I think you've got it in one, Gav. I can't think of anything better than the Ace within your price range. The Wildfire S is possibly the most likely alternative but I'd plump for the Ace over it.

You'd get a desire or galaxy 2nd hand for a bit less than that if you were that way inclined

Grand job. Ye had a look at the HTC Wildfire but the system doesn't seem as good as the Ace.

One thing I probably wouldn't buy 2nd hand is a phone, just a weird taboo about them.:D

You could prob buy a brand new Galaxy S on adverts for about 250.

There'll be plenty of HP Pre 3's floating about soon.

Its not android btw, its webos. Check out the thread in bargain alerts or in the talk to... elara.ie forum.

I'm sure plenty will end up on Adverts for well below your budget.

If your looking for android i'd consider the Sony Ericsson Mini Pro, its €229.99 when you switch over to vodafone.

Specs here, 1ghz processor, 512mb ram, hd video recording, android 2.3, qwerty keyboard and supports flash.

Also the Sony Ericsson Neo was priced at €269.99 when you switch over, seems to have gone up to €299.99 though. Would be alot better then the galaxy ace, think theres a few going on adverts for around 250.

Cheers all, think I've made my mind up with the Ace. Messed around with my mates the other day in work and it's slick.

Bit of an unrelated question, but how many apps roughly would this hold or can you store the apps on the memory card?

Sony Ericsson and Android don't go well together.

I've had one for the last 6 months and I want to beat the thing off a wall almost everyday.

    Go for the Ace.

Seems I'm going to go bill pay, just wondering about the Samsung Galaxy S 2 is it worth an extra €100? Can you make the keypad on it not Qwerty and is there a way to lock the keypad so it doesn't turn to it's side when you turn the phone?

You can just turn off auto rotate and there's so many keyboards a t9 wouldn't be an issue. The s2 is an absolute powerhouse though.Love mine

I got for misses xperia neo last week on prepay. It first android I had more time to play with. I have to say it's great little phone! Does everything well, haven't noticed slowdowns etc.

That phone makes me want to bin my 3GS amd finally go android!

I looked at thread about ace and good few people have basic problems like call quality!

Neo amd ace would be that far away in price from each other.

On the other hand op is going for bill pay, so I would just go for best you can get. S2 would ne nest bet. Contract will be long so op will be stuck with the phone for 1 year atleast.

Grand job, I take it the keypads are apps and would have to be downloaded? Are they free?

Well it's an 18 month contract, but I'm getting an absolute beast of a deal through Emobile as my dad works for Eircom. Basically working out as €181 over 18 months for the S2, as I'd be paying €30 a month anyway on pre-pay.

Ever use any of the free T9 ones?

As a matter of interest have you ever used the Eircom WEP Key Generator? And is it any use?

Cant say I have. Im a Swyper :pac:

Never used it on Android but apparently it works

Top stuff, can you change between T9 and Swyper do you know? Swyper would come in awfully handy when alcohol has been consumed I'd say.

Good stuff, can't wait to get this now, going to be like a kid at Christmas only it's my birthday!

An Post rang today, it's due to arrive tomorrow. Emobile made a bit of a toss up with my order hence the delay.

Did anyone happen to buy 3rd party insurance? Emobile only offered a monthly payment which I didn't want, looking for a one off payment for the year of insurance.

Is there any way of changing the sound on the Alarm? Everytime I change it, next time I set it it goes back to the orinigal phone set tone.

Awh my dad works in Eircom and they were doing a special deal since eMobile are a year old. Was a great deal, €149 for the phone then €34.50 a month for 18 months which I get 15GB data, few calls to any network and landlines and texts to any network.
