    Ok.
just been accepted into college and I am currently in the process of applying for a grant. My mother is in a nursing home and I hae neer none my father. This is real btw! not jeremy kyle! :D Anyway I am gonna be super tight with money in college so I have a few questions.

When will I know if i have been awarded the grant?

Are they any other means of assistance for me that i havent applied for?

How are the grants paid? weekly? monthly?

    Thanks in advance!

You will know as soon as the county council or VEC lets you know. It is impossible to say when this is

You can also if you are really stuck financially apply to the college for the student assistance fund

The grants are paid in 3 instalments so roughly around October then Dec/Jan and then Mar/Apr

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Not all colleges pay them in 3 instalments. I think all the IT's are paid each month. I am and I know a friend of mine is also and we are in two different IT's.
And I'm convinced a read somewhere you can apply to have yours paid each month also if you really required it. But don't hold me to that OP, because I'm not 100% sure.

That's strange - maybe it's a VEC thing that they pay monthly and the county councils pay in 3 instalments

Yep, that's it. I'm in an IT and I get 3 installments, but a few of few friends (in both IT's and Uni's) get it monthly.
