    Hi Folks

From what I can see, you can get combo Freesat/Saorview boxes which do have Ethernet (for "viewing the internet").

But they do not go into specifically what that means...

Essentially, I am looking for a box which will do Saorview, Freesat and play digital video (SD & HD - AVI, MKV, MP4) over the network from a media streamer.

    Does such a thing exist?

    Thanks
    James.

A HTPC with Quad tuner (x2 DVB-T, x2 DVB-S2) might be your best bet. Can be built from scratch with nice case for under €450:
Remote Control and IR reciever ~15
    mAtx Case ~ 50
    SFX / mAtx PSU ~15
    CPU (45w) ~50
    Motherboard ~40
    RAM ~15
Graphics Card (HDMI out, top notch video quality) ~35
    Quad Tuner ~150
    Some Silent Fans ~15
    2.5" quiet HDD ~45

If you have spare parts or an old PC laying around, you could built a HTPC very cheaply.

Thanks for the reply. Agreed. Just trying to keep it simple and low-cost though for this effort.

But they do not go into specifically what that means...

That is a difficulty ..... it is almost impossible to determine what limits are on the Ethernet cable use .... so the suggestion of a small PC to do the job would at least give the greatest flexibility in this respect.

How about a freesat HD TV.
Many are capable of Saorview/Freesat Reception and can play media files from USB/over ethernet.

Supported media may be limited depending on brand. But Transcoding is possible.
media will need to be provided by a DLNA server such as a PC running Win7 or supported NAS box.
