Looking for 1080 projector

I'm looking to buy a full HD projector for the basics of watching movies and games, I've been looking at the Optoma HD200x which seems to give good bang per buck. I can get it for around €850. Seems like a decent enough deal?

I notice a lot of the lower resolution projectors seem to come with 3D as standard but it's not available on any HD projectors for a reasonable sum of money. 3D would be a nice feature to have but it's not essential, is it just something outside of the normal price range at HD?

Pricey enough for a DLP projector, bulb only last 3-4,000 hrs also.

Check out http://www.avforums.com/, good bit of talk on there about new projectors due to be released next month.. There's a new Epson coming out, 1080p with 3D for £999. I'm holding off for that, decent bit of buz about it...

The HD200x is at €738 on Komplett, lowest price I've seen online. It gets good reviews and is a good price for a 1080p projector by all accounts. I'm in the same boat as the OP, not willing to sacrifice picture quality by getting 720p and 3D but would love a 1080p 3D projector. Don't think I'll have the patience to wait or the cash to splash on that Epson mentioned above though.

Whens that out, I had settled on this Epson EH-TW3600, it's getting pretty good reviews.

Have you a place in mind to buy it once it comes out?

Looks like I'll have to go for that one, I'll need to pre-order it though, I released the money from my savings already and if I don't order something with it I know I'll end up spending it on something stupid. I can't be trusted with large sums of money.

I have the Hd200x. Owned it 6 months now. Its a fantstic projector. The level of detail through bluraY at 108 diag inches is as good as 3d.

Does anyone know what kind of 3D the epson projector does? I'm only after finding out there's two types, active and passive with passive being pretty poor.

As I'm hoping to use this with gaming and in particular with a Nvidia card (I was going to buy the Nvidia glasses) I'm now worried about running into compatibility problems.

^^ This one looks good actually, cheaper again on pixmania.ie €1117.17

Quick question, what kind of sorround sound system should I be looking for? Ive been looking at a Yamaha YHT-296 but thats just because it looks expensive enough to be good and cheap enough to be in budget?? Any recommendations??

Another vote for the Optoma HD200X. Got it a few weeks ago and I'm blown away by the quality - even out of the box with no calibrating, apart from zoom and focus. Stunning quality for the price. Blu rays are incredible obviously but many of the DVDs I tried were more than acceptable - played on a Sony BDP 370 - €99 in Power City!

I haven't finished my low budget Home Cinema set-up yet but it's nearing completion (it's in a converted garage) I'm currently painting walls and ceiling in Dulux Grey Steel 1, and waiting to lay a dark carpet and black curtains. Couldn't resist running a few test movies (projector on a coffee table) and even without centering it perfectly, it was brilliant - couldn't believe the picture quality (on a Dulux brilliant white painted wall).

Highly recommened - even though I was a bit nervous about taking the plunge, having read online stuff about fan-noise, rainbow-effect etc...

Cant' wait to finish it - a couple of those easy chairs in the Harvey Norman sale are looking very tempting right now!

I'm looking for a HD projector too but am not interested in 3D, had also considered the Optoma HD200X but was worried about the one review that they mentioned "rainbow effect". I'll have a throw distance of about 10 feet and would be ceiling mounting it, is there a way of calculating the screen size I'd get?

    Hi
I had a look at a hd200x and watched scenes from batman, saving private ryan and i am legend. I only got a very slight hint of rainbow when watching batman. It only happened when I moved my eyes quickly around the screen. It hasnt put me off one though cause its a fantastic 1080p projector for the money!
I would certainly recommend one ;)

    Hi lads,

So i am seriously looking into getting a projector now as I am traveling quite alot and I reckon I could make life a good deal easier by splashing le cash.

On pixmania I am looking at an Epson EH-TW3200...but they have two prices on what looks to me like the very same projector...

Can anyone make sense of these two ads? or more to the point, spot any differences?

979 euro (don't know how to do the symbol:o)

    and 1180 euro

    Any ideas?

Also...who wouldn't buy one and why?

So is it a good buy at under 1k?

Yeah 250 not bad for a few quid ;)

Epson are a decent brand alright. Owners rate them. But you can save yourself another €250 ish if you go the dlp route over the lcd. Looking at the epson, bulb life is around 4k hours a dlp would range from 3k to 4k.
So I would personally go for a dlp projector because the bulb life difference isnt huge.
Having said that though your getting a two year warranty and a three year bulb warranty with that epson. So it might be worth that extra to have that bit of comfort

Right so the LCD has more lumens, better in a bright room but the blacks aren't quite as black as a dlp....I want mine for films and gaming, anyone have an opinion or even first hand experience?

From my own experience buy an optoma hd200x or the newer model hd 230x. You will be blown away :D
