What longshot in training camp are you hoping will make the roster?

Good way to learn about little known players on other teams :)

Does your team have an UDFA that's realy impressed you? Someone going to snap up a roster spot from a veteran or established player?

Doesn't have to be an UDFA, maybe someone like Mike Williams with the Seahawks back for a second chance.

For another example remember Victor Cruz, local player from Jersey who lit up the preseason for the Giants last year

    Ravens

    Justin Boren
Michigan and Ohio St are huge programs and Boren played for both :pac:

A mean, nasty mauler, plays left guard but has experience at center and right guard too, going to be a backup this year and I think he'll take over as a starter next year if they let their established left guard become a free agent

A real steal as an UDFA imo

Who is in your training camp?

Enjoyed that Mike, love reading about other team's make or break guys.

I wouldn't call him a longshot in that he's made the roster before, but Taylor Price has apparently lit up training camp for the Patriots this year. He's a nifty wide receiver with an eye for huge plays, and Brady has been very fond of throwing to him the past few weeks. With the likes of Welker, Ocho, Branch, Edelman, Tate and even our two freak tight ends as competition (the latter two not for roster spots, but for Brady's attention) Price must be doing something right. He could easily skyrocket up the depth chart this year.

Good to hear that my Ravens have a good UDFA, only I wish he was a tackle rather than an interior guy because we're already sound in the interior.

Agree with the guy who mentioned Taylor Price, think he looks like a real quality player.

Same could be said about the safety with the Saints, DeAndre McDaniel.

Dunno if he's considered a long shot or not, but you'd have to be inspired by the story of the linebacker with the Giants, Mark Herzlich.

Herzlich made the cut! Amazing story really. ESPN were doing a couple of links on him last night during College Football Live and you really appreciate what the guy came through.

Glad this thread got bumped :)

Any good stories of players who came from nowhere and made your team?

To be honest, I was more surprised by the guys who didn't make the cut at the Buccs than the guys who did. Amazed Tyrone McKenzie (MLB) didn't, seeing as he was being talked about as a potential starter after they let Barrett Ruud go in FA. Shows how high they are on Mason Foster though.

Would love to see if Devin Holland (DB) survives. Been impressed with him in pre-season.

Scott Tolzien getting cut by the Chargers surprised me. Kid has a lot of talent and I thought it would have been ideal for both him and the Chargers to sit behind Rivers for a year or two. Someone will pick him up I'm sure.

Bears had nine rookies make the 53 man roster, five of those were undrafted. WR Dane Sanzenbacher and TE Kyle Adams were the most impressive during training camp.

Vic So'oto, new linebacker for the Packers. Was an UDFA, but was supposed to have been very impressive during the training camp, and managed a pick-six against the Chiefs that ended up winning the game

Seems to be a good addition to an already solid defense.... now they just need to work on defending better against the run

The only UDFA to make this Lions roster is Ryan Donahue, the new punter!
There was very little difference between himself & Nick Harris (a six year veteran I beleive) during the preseason, so they went with the $1 million cheaper option.

    Tim Tebow :pac:

Seriously though, last years UDFA CB Cassius Vaughn made a big impact and is now 3rd on the depth chart at the position behind Champ and Andre Goodman, looks a bit of a steal.

We lost the entire 2009 second round to cuts/trades and last year's 5th rounder (perrish cox) to a cut thanks to the fact that he's going to prison...cheers josh mcdaniels!

Those first round draft picks are always a long shot to make the roster! :pac:

We had only 1 UDFA make it this year. It is the 15th year in a row one of these guys has made it to the 53, this is an NFL record btw. His name is Daryl Gamble an OLB from Georgia. Really impressed in the preseason but has his work cut out to get a sniff at starting. He will play special teams initially. Another good news story is that of Bryan Walters a white WR out of Cornell if you don't mind. This Ivy Leaguer made it too, we're hoping he might be the next Wes Welker (who the Chargers let go before he made it).

Yep, made me sick that we let him go. Instead we kept 11 freakin LBs, at least 1 of whom could be gone before Sept 11. Tolzien is now a 49er after having a great night against them in the the last preseason game. Had he stayed in SD he could have been backing up Rivers in 2012. Real stupid decision made by our personnel guys.
