    Hi All,
As the title suggests, Im trying to decide which of the two I should go for. Im looking for a nice hot hatch, with decent styling. It will mainly be me driving, but herself and my daughter may be passengers every now and again. Ive researched both, and Im kinda stuck as to which to go for. I know the Golf is bigger, but I just like the look of the Cooper S more. I would be going for a 2007 model more than likely.

    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks

when I bought my GTI in 2007 .. I had a notion about the CooperS as well.

I took a cooperS for an extended test drive and after about an hour or so I made up my mind to go for the golf.

Leaving as side the fact that the MINI was more expensive when the relevant options boxes were ticked .. I just knew instantly I couldn't live with it as a daily driver.

The suspension was as harsh as it comes, the seats were not great and as for back seats and lack of a real boot it wasn't a runner.

Other than that it would be an ideal weekend car and was great fun. I might still go there later in the year when I decide on the weekend car I do want.

Golf GTi if you want just a normal everyday car with a bit of poke but the Cooper S if you are after a proper fun car to drive.

Thanks for the replies. I already have a weekend car in a 1980 Mini 1275GT, so its not all about having a car that puts a smile on my face. Saying that, I dont want anything too bland either (both of which I know are not). Another option I need to look at are tax costs (1.6 vs 2.0) and fuel economy. I know buying a "hot hatch" and fuel economy dont go hand in hand, but when Im driving it lightly, I dont want it to drink fuel. This is a reason why I have removed the RX8 from my list, despite me really really wanting it!
