I was on a bus yesterday evening and when I got off I noticed the driver was chatting on his mobile phone using a hands-free headset. Do Dublin Bus permit that?

No is the only answer! drivers are not permitted to use their phones or any handsfree device including ipods and bluetooth headsets while driving.

If you see this again you should take the bus number and note the time and place and report the incident to Dublin Bus.

    No.

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

Thanks, I actually do know what bus number it was so I'll try reporting it to Dublin Bus.

I was on a bus in galway a few months back and the driver took his break in the bus and had a smoke for himself in the bus!

I reported a driver for using a mobile once (not hands free). I haven't a clue if DB actually spoke to the driver or not, but I have to give them credit for the quickness of their replies. The first reply was within 48 hours, and they seemed to take the matter seriously. I thought that was the end of the matter, but I got a second reply along the same lines a few weeks later, from the depot I think.

All in all, I was impressed. I expected them to question me a little bit, but they didn't question my version of events at all, so it was good to see them tackle the matter so quickly.

I wouldn't waste your time. I reported a driver for dangerous driving a few weeks back, got a reply quick enough asking me for a number so they could talk to me, never heard anything

Described the incident in detail, gave reg and fleet number, exact time and place and asked them to pull the footage too, you'd think that'd be enough...

You should always try to get the bus number as in av XXX or LC 13 etc as there may be several busses on the same route in the same area at the same time. It makes identification more accurate and adds weight to any complaint made

As a matter of interest how would you get the bus number? It's not displayed on the front of the bus is it? I guess it's printed on the tickets the bus driver issues but I nearly always use a smartcard.

printed on a few panels around the exterior of the bus and also on a panel inside iirc. The reg plate usually matches or partial matches the fleet number, ie 08-d-30123 would be AV 123 for example...
