Say your 10points off a course.
How much percent would you have to improve in a subject youre appealing?:)

You would need to jump 2 grades, or a maximum of 10%.

Or, jump the gap between A2 and A1, a maximum of 5%.

Points and percentage have nothing to do with each other.

If you get what is basically 85-89.9% in a subject, that's an A2 and you get 90 points for it at higher level. But Leaving Cert papers are not marked as percentages they are just given a total of marks which varies from subject to subject. Some subjects are marked out of 300, some out of 400 etc etc.

But to go back to your points question. If a paper is marked out of 400 and you got 300, well that's the same as 75% which is a B2 so 80 points, to get to a B1 which is at least 80% you would need 20 extra marks in that paper. But the person on 79% also falls into the B2 category but would only need five marks to bring them up to 80% or a B1.

So if you are considering rechecks, view your papers first, in some subjects you may find you only are one or two marks away from the next grade band, but it others you may find you only just scraped into a grade band and would need a lot of marks to come up to the next one.
