    Hi Michael,
I was in the exact position a while back. But dont worry, keep good grades in first year - perhaps make a staff member aware of your situation as the year goes on, and after results come out - talk to people in phys dept - perhaps the Dean and you can usually switch into a course. Basically good grades are the key - if there is a bunch of courses that you wont be taking but the others will you might want to sit in on some of those classes.
My advice is go talk to a relevant person in the dept. they usually can be of good help - perhaps ask here for a member of the phys dept that is easy to chat to?

In my case i quickly found out that astronomy is more about computers than looking into space, hence i never did bother to switch into astronomy - on the upside my first two years did point me towards what i am actually interested in. You never know after first year you may change your mind on what you want to do. My advice for subjects is
Physics, maths, maths-phys/applied maths, comp sci.
    Perhaps earth science -

    Good Luck:
