I know theres a similar thread below this but i thought my criteria was different enough. im looking to buy a desktop, mostly for mosying around the net and the usual but i would also like to be able to play some games on it. i dont want a true gaming pc, just one that will play some ww2 first person shooters, and strangely, i would dearly love to be able to play the combat flight simulator game i got about 12 years ago! basically, a simple enough desktop with a basic to medium graphics card.
an off the shelf desktop too please!
    thank you :D

My answer is the same here as it was in the other thread.
Get help from the forum to build one, it's cheaper and better and if you don't actually want to build it yourself you won't have too, you can either get the website to build it before shipping for a charge or someone here on boards will do it for free!

but how much does a basic self built pc cost?

Someone posted a build the other day for €210 which would kind of be the lowest price you will get for an all new system. That doesn't include Windows or keyboard/mouse & monitor. Adding in all those will add about another €200. I would want to get a little hight than the lowest spec if I was buying so maybe push your budget a little higher than that to get a computer that will last for years to come.

Maybe take a look at the PC Building & Upgrading forum to see the different specs and prices that others have posted.

I don't think the problem with your game is that the requirements of it are very high, it's more likely to be that the game doesn't work properly with any operating system above 98 or which ever OS it was designed for. So when you get a new pc with Windows 7 on it, the game might not work fully.

As far as second hand computers go, well it's second hand so it all depends on what you buy and who you buy from. You could be very unlucky and get a bad machine or get very lucky and get a really good one for cheap. I have a friend who bought a great pc second hand and has had no issues with it at all. Buying a second hand pc will get you a more powerful pc than the €210 one but again you really need to be careful and at least have a good idea of what a good price is, as some people have very high expectations for their old and dying hardaware.

If your not aware http://adverts.ie/ is a good place to look for second hand stuff in Ireland. If you want a second opinion of any computer there I've no problem helping :) Post here or PM me if you want.
