Monitor choice

Following on from something I said in the calibration thread, it seems like I'm going to have to replace my current monitor. After it's monthly recalibration (which was probably overdue by another month through me ignoring the notifications), it's now displaying darker, and stronger blue hue's in the top right third of the screen that gradually become more neutral and "normal" toward the bottom right third.

What monitors are out there that do well for photo editing work, but aren't going to cost huge money? I know I'm going to have to pay for what I get, but I don't fancy shelling out a grand on one.
Is anyone able to recommend anything specific that they've been using?

I never thought I'd be shooting, editing or printing enough to warrant looking into getting a more dedicated screen, and the screen I have was no slouch, but I'm really noticing the imbalance enough to make me want to not view photos on it as I'll know they'll be skewed, colour wise.
