That is appalling. Boring. Non-inventive. Playing safe. Kack.

In the words of Bill Hicks
People say to me, "Oh, Bill, leave them alone. They're so good, and so clean-cut, and they're such a good image for the children." F*ck that! When did mediocrity and banality become a good image for your children? I want my children listening to people who f*cking rocked! I don't care if they died in pools of their own vomit! I want someone who plays from his f*cking heart! "Mommy, the man Bill told me to listen to has a blood bubble on his nose." SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO HIM PLAY!

i love the SP but 1979 is defo not the best song of the masterpiece that was Mellon collie.
I'm used to skip when my mp3 is playing it... maybe because it reminds me of the direction they took immediately after and how they managed to ruin one of the best rock sounds of the 90s

You mean the direction that resulted in Adore? Because that is definitely their most underrated album and, in my opinion, their best album by far, as well as being one of my favourite albums of all time.

OP, 1979 is definitely a great song but it wouldn't be anywhere close to being my favourite SP track. Probably wouldn't make my top 10 or even top 20 by them tbh. Also I'm not sure I wanna listen to that cover; I still haven't recovered from hearing Panic! At the Disco brutally rape, savage and murder "Tonight Tonight". Honestly, a little part of me died afterwards. :(

Good tune and one of the first Pumpkins songs I got into. Gutted when they didn't play it at the gig I went to last year.

Having said that, it's no 'Tonight, Tonight' or 'Today'.

I like '1979' but does this really deserve it's own thread? If this was another music forum this thread would be closed by now.

I agree. Thread closed. There's already Best/Worst Cover Versions threads in the forum.

Because mods have lives too we rely on people to report posts or threads that they think need attention. Feel free to do that instead of complaining that a thread hasn't been closed.
