Changes at Family Search

I just read that Tuesday is the last day for using the old Familysearch pilot site:

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

From then on, you have to use the new (less intuitive and more difficult to manipulate) site at:

https://www.familysearch.org/

Shouldn't complain too much, since this site has literally saved years of tedious index look ups but I'm still a tiny bit grumpy about the changeover.

I have to agree. I find the pilot site far more user friendly, better, flexible filters & search criteria. Don't like the new site very much at all.
However, shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth!

I have to say I am quite disappointed I just did two searches and pilot got me not just the record of birth but the parents names as well. I did the search on the new site and got 5 different records with no clue which one is which as they don't have the parents names! I really hope this improves. I am delighted that these free sites are up but pilot was a great site that never needed a change.

the parents names are only included in the extracted collections for births (father's names for marriages), which do not include all areas, and only cover up to about 1881. Depending on the dates you are planning to search, it's a good idea to start by selecting the appropriate record collection.

* plus non-Catholic marriages from 1845. The collections only include Northern Ireland Records up to end of 1921. Mother's maiden surname is included on birth records in the online index from the late 1920s.

Most of the records in these collections are partial extracts of civil records, but there are a few parish records. To cross reference the extracted records with full Index records, check for matching page reference numbers. The submitted (i.e. IGI) records are no longer included in these collections.

Exactly what I'm saying this new one has no records from the 1700s which are input by people in the older one that is pretty useless when some people have done their 1800s research ages ago..
