Trade in's in NI

    Hi folks...
    Probably been asked a million times so please forgive..but are there any garages in NI that will accept a trade in with a republic reg? and if so are they generous in their allowances?..

    Would it not have to be officially exported to the UK first? As for the allowance I think you've a fair idea of that yourself. Unless you're selling something in demand I can't imagine the trade-in value being generous on a car they'd find hard to sell.

    No such thing as the Irish Government does not recognise the fact vehicles are exported. They keep the reg number alive for ever. You can re-register all you want but the Irish number never dies.

    It would be up to the trader to re-register it in NI with all the costs involved.

    Yes, there are Northern garages who accept an ROI trade-in. I know for certain that both Desmonds and Donnelly+Taggart in Derry do this. I talked to Desmonds (Ford garage) about trading in my car with them a few weeks ago, the salesman said they have a dealer in Dublin who takes their ROI reg trade-ins.

    You'd probaly have a better chance with garages in the border areas.
