If You Had to Live in Another Country... which country would you choose and why?

    I'll start.

    My choice?
I live in Ireland and if I had to move and had a choice I think I'd choose England.

    Why?
Because I think it would be the place where I would relate to others the mostest.

So what country do you live in and if you had to move where would you go and why would you choose there?

Only if you lived in a town primarily inhabited by hostesses!

    Portugal,

Lived there for 12 years, know the people, know the culture, know the language.

    Love there whether.

For me there is just something uplifting about living in sunshine for the most part of the year.

You can drive all over mainland europe on great roads and last but not least its not hard to get back to Ireland if need be :-)

And that concludes the opinions of the portuguese tourist board :-)

I would live in Japan, love the culture! Know the language, and its another island like Ireland, so I think I'd feel at home.

Can't wait to go there!! I'll probably not come back.

Saudi Arabia. A country free of single mothers, bleeding hearts, democracy, Christians, atheists, jedward, bouncers, travellers and cyclists.

    The AH'ers dream.

Have you seen that new status update plauging Facebook?

"If you cross the North Korean border illegally, you get 12 yrs. hard labor. If you cross the Afghanistan border illegally, you get shot. If you cross the Irish border illegally you get a job, a driver's license, food stamps, a place to live, health care, housing & child benefits, education, & tax free business for 7 yrs. No wonder we are a country in debt. Re-post if you agree!!! "

    There are no words...............

Germany. Know the language, visited it and loved it, very pleasant people, beautiful landscapes, and a considerably better chance of finding a job there!

    My Choice?

First choice Canada, second choice Alaska.

    Why?

Both Canada and Alaska have low population densities, meaning greater space, tranquility and peace. The primary language of both regions is English. Canada in particular seems to be quite a socially progressive country with low crime rates and nice people. Both regions also have stunning and picturesque geological features. My dream would be to have a nice reasonably sized house overlooking one of the many lakes in those far flung regions of North America.

Yes, but unlike Ireland it's on the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Absolutely no idea so I'm going to give as many of them a go as possible and then decide.

This is also my dream :D Someday!

I found out yesterday I'm moving to Canada next January for college! It's not Japan but its better than Ireland!

    Australia.

Perth, first choice (beautiful, young, fresh city)
Sydney second choice, northern beaches area, prob Manly (Bondi's crap compared)
Lifestyle much superior to Ireland, worked there for a while, picked up for work around 7am, was on beach for 3pm work over for the day.

Paid 1200 dollars a week, approx €867 home with me, (30 bucks an hour)
Rent was 120 a week, a beer was four dollars

Couldn't beat it with a big thorny one!

First choice: US of A (namely New York)
    Second choice: England (namely London)
    Third choice: Canada
    Fourth choice: France

Sunshine my ass, the rain and cold is the same as Ireland and I was in Lisbon. Freezing nights and pissing rain for most part of the year.

    Drive where ? Switzerland ?
The place is nowhere near any European Countries and the death rate on the crap roads is 8 times that of Ireland. Dangerous driving, bad roads, and 3 days to anywhere in Europe. Forget about mainland Europe, except Spain, which has nice food, people and roads.

Also the roads are terrible and full of bad drivers.

Australia - genuinely friendly people, great climate and a relaxed approach to life plus a general sense of fair play.

    France - the baguettes

Those parts of the US where "liberal" is not a term of abuse.

I'd live in SoCal, more specifically, Orange County.
The people are lovely, the scenery is beautiful, the weather and shops are fantastic. Nobody makes you feel bad for taking care of your appearance, and it's far easier to eat healthy, a lot more variety with low fat, or healthy food.

Favourite city: Copenhagen, but I don't know if I could live there.
Boston Mass, another favourite, and Montreal, what a city!

I'd like to live in New Zealand though, visited for around a month several years back and had a whale of a time. I felt at home there, though they seem to have a bit of a complex when it comes to Australia. Beating them at any sport is a big big deal in New Zealand.

USA as they are, in my experience, very friendly people and English speaking.
Spain - love the lifestyle though the mid week drinking is poor
Germany everything is efficient and they are very friendly too.

Definately not Belize, the islands are lovely but you have to got to the mainland sometimes and its pure dodge.
Definately not Oz, dont like the I can belch louder, armwrestle longer, pee further attitude of the inhabitants.

Lived in Amsterdam, Holland for a while, would definitely go back there again.

There's the mad party side of the city which is great but outside of that its actually a beautiful city with some great communities and excellent infrastructure.

They are a hugely progressive people too. Never get too hysterical about problems that are facing them and a lot of govt. decisions seem to be made based on facts and logic, seems very alien to what goes on here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,261 ✭✭✭Sonics2k

    Choice 1: Brisbane
Lived there for a few years. Weather is perfect for me, so much to do in and and outside of the city. Surfing on the Gold Coast, or heading out to the bush for some hiking and moto-cross.
The cost of living is very reasonable, even if the employment system is kinda messed up.

    Choice 2: Canada/Alaska
Some of the most fantastic scenery in the world. Canadians are actually quite a lot of fun, despite all the jokes about em.
That and I could get a Husky and not have to worry about the weather :D

Love Germany. If I ever win the lotto, I'm going to by myself a home there, the place is unreal!

The food, the people, the talent:D, the autobahns.

    Everything just rocks over there.

Ich bin auch flies auf deutsch!

Dubai. For the money. The lovely tax-free money.

To spend the money on the other hand; New Zealand (only problem is its too damn far away from anywhere), or Canada (BC, not the east). I would have added Italy but its going to be miserable there for the forseeable future.

Spent my early childhood in Canada and always feel its my real home. Would love to live in Vancouver instead of cold cold Edmonton where I lived but as my parents are getting old I would hate to be that far away and traveling for hours to come home if something happened them.

That's why myself and my youngest are moving to France in 2 years after he does his junior cert. Ideally I want to live in south near Montpelier but to start with will prob live on French Swiss border coz am hoping to work in Geneva. I love France.

Probably give China a go. Spent some enjoyable time there. The people are very welcoming and it would be better once you pick up more of the language.

Germany. They've a much better transport, education and health system.

Their culture is one that's much less lazy and doesn't involve "getting pissed" to have a good time.

People are nice, country is beautiful and the economy is better there.

Currently living in Brixton, London, and I really love it here. Finally found somewhere I'm happy after living all around the globe, I'm dead worldly me.
I didn't like Canada, too boring and cold and soulless, spent the most depressing winter of my life there at the tail end of a failed marriage so maybe my view is clouded. Oz and NZ were too far away. I like Berlin and can speak German so I'd love to live there for a while but job opps are few and far between for a chancer like me I'd imagine. So in conclusion, it's landan innit!

Canada, Nice - South France, or New Zealand.

First and last are more open, progressive, environmental friendly, cleaner, good education systems not starved, and other reasons.
All three have good health care, good tax systems and other advantages.

Nice in Southern France is just nicely positioned between Monte Carlo and Cannes. On the whole one stunningly beautiful spot.

I know plenty of German pissheads mate. They're not as well behaved as we like to think! Plus who would want to live somewhere where the folk don't like a good knees up!
