Canine Courses?

Okay, so I'm looking to broaden my canine knowledge base and the fact is that I'm the kind of person who really needs some sort of structured learning plan with goals and objectives as I can't cope with aimlessly reading random stuff and basicly just not knowing where I'm going with it. So I'm basicly wondering what is out there in terms of on-line or distance learning courses related to anything canine? I'm interested in theory based stuff more so than dog training at the minute due to time, resources etc. So has anyone done anything like this? Sorry if I'm being a bit vague but considering any aspect of doggie education that sounds like it might be interesting ;).

    Good for you AJ,
The Centre for Applied Pet Ethology (COAPE) offer a course for owners who want to really add some oomph to their knowledge.. http://www.coape.co.uk/c01.html
COAPE is a well-respected organisation in the dog training world, and the course tutor, Val Strong, is just great and really well-respected by all. Her specialist area is in canine nutrition.. there are times she says things about what we feed our dogs that would just make your jaw hit the floor and think "Why the hell didn't I think of that?"!
Closer to home, Alison Bush of Happier Hounds Dog Training in Abbeyleix offers a very comprehensive and thorough course which involves a couple of weekends of hands-on learning... there's a lot to be said for seeing the theory turned into practise!http://www.happierhoundsdogtraining.com/StudyingCanineBehaviourAndTraining/
Alison is great, and I think it's brill that such a course is available in Ireland. This Compass course is well-recognised amongst the dog-training fraternity in the UK and beyond.

The field of canine learning, training and behaviour is in a very exciting place right now, it's a great time to do a good course that'll really stretch your knowledge and understanding!

I'd be interested to know how you get on, let us know, won't you?:)

No, I will not let you know how I get on, I'll keep it all as secret ammunition to throw at people in heated debates :p

Seriously though, will look into the above, thanks! Was actually thinking about one of Alison's dog-training courses next year after new puppy arrives, but very interested in all the theory as well ;)

Cool! I've met a few of Alison's students and they know their stuff. So there'll be nowhere to hide for everyone in heated debates!:p
