    Hi all.

Recently purchased an iPhone4. Have set up my iol email on it and while I can receive emails I cannot send them. I know that the outgoing (smtp) server must be aligned to your network provider but I cannot find an smtp setting for 3 which will actually work. I have tried mail-relay.3ireland.ie but that doesn't work. I have also tried mail.iol.ie, smtp.iol.ie with no luck.

    Has anyone any advice ??

mail-relay.3ireland.ie is the right one. It should be set to default ports, and no authentication. This will only work on 3's 3G network, it will not work on your home or any other WiFi zone

Many thanks Whiterebel. Its only possible to reply so when on the 3 network. Will have to turn off the WiFi when emailing at home.

No, add server for the home provider too

Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Select Mail account > SMTP > Add Server

Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Select Mail account > SMTP > Add Server

This^. It will then search for whichever one you are connected to automatically.

    Hi
Would anyone have suggestions re similar problem on O2? I'm trying to get it set up on my iPhone.

I can receive mail for my IOL account via pop.iol.ie but can't send.

I have added multiple SMTP servers - mail1.eircom.net, mail1.eircom.net, smtp.02.ie and even smtp.gmail.com, nothing is sending.

    Any help appreciated.
