How do I find out the max CPU my mobo supports?

I currently have an AMD athlon 64 4000+ and the mobo is a MSI K9AGM3.
My PC seems to be too slow to transcode 1080p over my wifi to my PS3 so I'm seeing if I can upgrade the CPU to see if that'll help. I've got built in ATI X1200 IGP so I can't use that to help with the transcoding.

I was looking at my motherboard online and I keep seeing different reports on the top CPU it supports. Going by the name, I assume its an AM3 socket. Is that right? Does AM3 even exist??:p

Anyway, I just thought I'd ask in here to see if anyone knows of a site with an up-to-date list of sockets/mobo's + their top CPU supported. I can probably find the CPU on eBay myself, but just need to know what it is first!!

    Thanks!

Its an AM2 socket motherboard, so the top CPU it would support would be one of the higher end Phenom X4s. The Phenom X4 9950 was the last one in that line I think.

Edit: Its probably one of these

Yeah, thats the exact model of my motherboard, the K9AGM3-FD!

So even though the motherboard was out 4 years ago, or so, and came with an X2, it'l still support an X4?? Thats good to know.

EDIT: Just found this on their site:
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K9AGM3-FD.html#?div=CPUSupport

Its a comlete list of CPUs it supports. I'm assuming the lower down the list, the newer/faster they are? Sorry for the probably obvious questions! :o
