Anyone using the beta skin? Haven't tried it for more than a few mins, so far nothing to complain about really.

Only yesterday I was on the Raspberry Pi fora wishing they were more like boards.ie; but anything that'll get questions asked about what can pass for normality in SuperHyperinflationBros.ie is a good thing.

Tried it earlier and like the layout but the White backgrounds are way too bright, bad for your eyes that, went back to Blue. Also don't like the number beside my username showing how many subbed forums I have, confuse it with new PMs.

The bar at the top is way too big.

I think facebook have the optimal size for that type of thing down. Boards is almost 3 times bigger than facebooks.

Back using my trusty old brown style now.

I hated it at first, but have gotten used to it over the last week or two [modz got early access for bug testing/feedback]. Think I'll leave it as my default now, the bar makes things easier to navigate etc.

@Andrew, where's that subbed forums number I can't see it...

Think he means subbed threads, I've no number in the notifications drop down or My Forums drop down.

    Uugh. "Forums", its fora damnit!

Ah I see, I don't subscribe to threads..only forums so that would explain why I don't see the number :)

I'm over it, it was a lost cause in the 90s. Its just an irritation knowing I'll be soon seeing it constantly in a new location.

(ie, time to learn to write a Greasemonkey script :pac: )

Just after selecting that skin as a matter of interest to see what it's like - why is everything so big????

Its like the loudness wars, but for typography. Or just some expectation that HD screens make everything smaller. Probably the second one.

Yeah sorry the number relates to "Followed threads". Actually I must un-follow them. My eyes still can't handle the white backgrounds though, never understood why boards doesn't have more UI customisation functionality, the skin choice is sh1te.

I blame the Hipsters, they have to be involved somehow.

Phew, I beat the hipsters and managed to get it back the way it was.

I really don't like change when it comes to Boards.ie. It's the one constant in my life :D

Would perhaps be a nice touch if Boards reconsidered changing any of the retro themed threads.

Even make 'em more old fashioned - a separate Usenet inspired style. Consistency is over-rated!

Nice to see they have a 6 slot Neo Geo electrocoin! I'll have to remember to drop by for a visit next time I'm over that way.

    Love the shop front too.

I can't imagine the current one will fit on it anyway... the IR ports need to line up.

Why doesn't Centra or Spar have a vocaloid idol? All I ever get in Spar is food poisoning and in Centra it's a mix of cold coffee and hairy sandwiches. :(

so a vocaloid idol make food poisoning and hairy sandwiches worth it?
It's bearable to listen to, which is good compared to most of the other ones I'll admit but IMO this is a better song about a convenience stores

That's the best song I've ever heard in my entire life.

Nothing beats the actual in store sounds of a Japanese convenience store. The 7-11 jingle is a catchy bastard. The Yodabashi Camera song is boss of them all though. Endless escalators in giant electronic department stores (and the games are always near the top) are much more pleasant with catchy jingles playing.

I always wondered why the convenience store jingle in the original persona was so weird until I heard that those kinds of jingles are common in japanese stores.

    Crazy bastards.

Listening to the first few seconds of that I was wondering why Japan doesn't have a bigger shoplifting problem.

    EDIT
Oh wait, it actually sounds more like...

    What's the Japanese for "Malice"?

My favourite example was this short little jingle that is always playing in the background in Yakuza 3. I always thought it was just general atmosphere noise.

One day, waiting to cross the road in Fuji, I heard the very same jingle coming from somewhere. Found out it was actually the noise traffic lights make :pac:

(does anyone else find it odd someone filmed a traffic light and put it up on youtube?)
