Makes sense. I thought for a moment Sting was making video games and jacked in his day job. :)

    I'm stuck on Resonance...

Wasn't paying enough attention at one point so don't know how to solve a puzzle... it really could do with a log.

I've a 32 inch one and it weighs 180lbs, so it's heavier than me.

Like, compared to say an 29" arcade monitor? Heavier?

Yeah, I do need the dimensions though and I wonder would an IKEA Expedit be able to take the weight on top.

Not sure, I've never lifted one of those. What I will say though, is that arcade screens are much much easier to get some purchase on. Those 29" Trinitrons are so big it's difficult to get your arms around it or under it to get a proper grip of it.

I ended up taking the back cover off mine & using rope tied around the frame inside it, & winched it up into the attic. Same taking it down, but no winch...I was able to hold it in the air with one arm with the rope & lower it down slowly.

It's more a case of not being able to hold them properly, two people would make it much easier

It's a bitch to get a grip on. I just left my one downstairs and sold the other tele.

29" Trinitron is approx 771x592x553mm and 49Kg weight according to service manual.

    Ouch..

    Thanks for that.
Hmm, the weight wouldn't be an a massive problem as I've lifted more on my own but the shape seems to be the issue here.
I think its just too big as it would be going in the man cave and I have a 23-24" CRT in there now and its just the right size, but I want a better quality one.

    Oh well :(

I've got my eyes on a Bang and Olufsen Beovision MX6000 CRT but it might be a while before I get that.

Indeed, the weight isn't the problem...it's very heavy for sure but it can be lifted. It's purely the shape & size which prevent you from getting a good grip, forcing you to stretch which makes it feel ten times heavier than it is.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think it's just to big for the man cave with all the other stuff I have. I really just need a very good 23-24" CRT that has a normal back and not the monster backend like the Sony.

Well if anyone else wants one let me know and I'll point you in the right direction as I'm going to skip this one. It's in Bray by the way.

Still good value stuff to be gotten in the rage, KuruKuru Kururin boxed for 10e the other day was pretty good in my opinion, the more popular stuff carries a bit of a premium but I'm not really looking for that sort of stuff when in there at this stage.

Picked up Persona 3: FES for 12e in CEX today, in brand new condition. Already finished the psp port but nice to have, even if I never get round to playing The Answer.

I'm sure there is, the problem is you have to go into town to find out.

Fair point, I have to be in town 3-4 times a week in the usual week so can always stick my head in on my travels and see what's new, so their setup suits me I suppose

    Lucky you :)

Because Dublin city center is such a god awful dying kip, I do my best to avoid it whenever possible - making shopping in the RAGE, very, very unlikely. That being said, if I could see what they had in stock at any given time, I'd venture in no problem if they had something I wanted to buy.

They do put up some pics on facebook of what they have but if you should be crazy enough to ask how much you're normally met with

It's a physical store. If you want to check what they have online why not just buy what your looking for from an online shop?

This argument grows old, I'd like to buy from RAGE because:

    No postal fees
    Supporting the store
    Possible bargains
You can see before you buy
    It's an Irish company.

I don't buy from RAGE because:

I won't travel all the way into town just to browse what they have.
There's no way of knowing whats in stock, despite many physical stores being able to offer an online stocklist
They normally don't reply to facebook price enquiries according to Steve
Phoning them isn't an option if you just fancy a browse/random hunt

TL DR? It's too much hassle, so I just use online alternatives such as Infideals/Luckie Games/Retro Games in the UK etc etc, & funnily enough, these all have physical stores too so it can't be that hard to setup. Doesn't bother me either way, I get the games I want, whoever makes it easy for me to buy gets the sale is the way I see it

They've lost out on a good bit of cash from me for not responding to basic questions on facebook. The one day I did decide to go in they were closed (on a Monday and it was 1pm).

Eh, I think you expect to much from it. It always struck me just as a way to make a physical record store viable. They way I look at it if you find a bargin that's grand, but I don't go in there expecting it. To be honest I'm suprised they generaly know what things are worth since the records are their obvious passion

Yep came to the same conclusion myself :) If a shop can't be arsed answering stock/price enquiries then I simply can't be arsed shopping in it.

There's no bargains there anymore. Why pay the average BIN price on ebay for a game in Rage when I can buy for cheaper from ebay and have it delivered to your door. They don't check how much games are worth, they just check it up on ebay first. They'll even put a premium on games they like themselves.

The guy said that to me once when I was in there. I couldn't understand the reasoning at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,920 ✭✭✭Steve X2

I dunno, I just don't fancy dropping into the shop any more.
It might have been the guy behind the counter wearing the scarf, shades and gloves the last time I was in that's put me off :D

If I'm in the vincinity, I'll stop in for a browse. It's just annoying knowing that when I'm ordering games from the states/UK that they could be sitting on a shelf in RAGE.

If you ask me, the whole thing is is half arsed & lazy. Maybe it's just me, but if I were to open a shop, my own ambition would be to make it the best shop it could be & expose it to as many as possible. The attitude of 'it'll do' is so typically Irish & lazy that RAGE for me is a wasted opportunity.

The rage discussion, Any second ill expect someone will post that red dwarf bit.

I agree with nearly everything Steve and Enter say and would also say that the staff turned me off the store as well but so the guy running it was incredibly unprofessional and had me waiting around for a few hours when I sold on a load of games back in my collecting youth and never even said sorry.
