    Hi All,

I'm finally upgrading my samsung to an Iphone this weekend but I'm wondering about insurance ... I haven't had insurance on a phone in years and thankfully, haven't had one lost or stolen in years either. However, I'm going to be tied to a 2 yr contract so I think it might be worth my while this time ...

Anyone any suggestions of Insurance providers or is it just a waste of money ??

    Thanks
    A

If you can afford to take the risk then I would advise you to do so, mobile phone insurance is a joke. There are exclusions that aren't highlighted at the time you sign up, one of the major 'gotchas' is that if you lose the item in a public place (bar, nightclub, back of a taxi etc.) then they will not pay out.

If the item is damaged in an accident they will usually first tell you to claim on your household insurance, then try to fob you off with a cheapo repair and the cowboys people they will engage to repair the phone will probably take several attempts to get it working, in the meantime you will have no phone.

When you buy mobile phone insurance, the sales guy n the shop gets a kickback, the shop owner (O2, Vodafone, Carphone Warehouse etc.) gets a commission, the insurance co. makes a profit and what little is left over covers the actual risk of paying on a valid claim. Put simply, there are too many snouts in the trough so it's crap value for money.
