Joined the N11 this morning at 120kmh. The Saab behind me joined at the same speed. I proceeded in the driving lane. There was a car merging ahead at low speed. the saab went into the overtaking lane, tailgaiting a car driving in the overtaking lane. I weighed it up and decided I had enough road to drive on in the driving lane and then overtake the merging car. the honda driving ahead of the saab decided to veto this mood and neither speeded up or slowed down but decided to consider the possibility of watching me smash into the back of the slow moving car. in the end i had no choice but to indicate and overtake. i pulled in immediately to let the asshole go by. He did but not without sideswiping my car narrowly missing. Then he and the saab came abreast of a slow moving truck and decided that collective punisment was due for the entire n11 by blocking up the traffic, to punish me. The honda got bored and pulled in. then the saab took up the mantle by brake testing me at least 3 times. then pulled in. as i overtook they pulled into my lane. i backed off, they pulled in ,i tried again, they feigned to do it again. they let me by then tailed me and started taking photos of my car. they backed off. then i noticed i was being followed. the honda tailed me as far as city west, pulled abreast of me and gave me the finger before going to work. WHAT IS WRONG WITH US. THERE WAS NO NEED FOR ANY OF THIS ****. My friend in the honda could have speed up to leave me room or god forbid flashed his lights to let me through. I hate Irish people. We are peasants

You live in a $hithole country where 15% of the people have no jobs, the country is being run by gombeens, the IMF calls the shots, the lazy intellectually challenged electorate voted in FF three times in a row even when it was revealed Bertie was going around with suitcases of cash and no bank account, corruption and the chancer culture permeates every level of society, there is no respect for the law and everything revolves around alcohol and getting drunk. Don't be surprised, as annoying as your experience was, the key is to not let it get to you.

"Why are Irish drivers so ignorant???"

Because the driver training regime in this country is p1ss poor.

    Simple as that.

you are reading it wrong. they were behind me driving in the overtaking lane. then the honda closed the gap at the last minute when i used the overtaking lane to overtake

What "driver training regime" would that be?
    Never heard of any....
I always thought, that everyone in Ireland is born with ability to drive.

How do you know he was Irish?

If you hate Irish people so much, move.

I've driven in half of Europe, North America and a bit of Asia. Ireland ranks somewhere near the middle in driving terms.

I'm sick of this Ireland is a ****hole and Irish people are useless lark, you get gob****es everywhere.

    Hmmmmmmm

I am not Irish, and drive here for last 6 years. Despite a random asshole on a road i find Ireland extremely polite on roads. Just an example:

You know when you try to cross the road in mains streets? Most cars would let pedestrians go, you would just raise your hand and thank them. My friend went back to Lithuania for holidays. He got used to this Irish polite way. He tried to cross road, lifted his hand and ended up on the bonnet of the car and driver using every single curse word he knew...

I dont know about Dublin, but in cork area and smaller towns it's very friendly enviroment for drivers. Ofc there will be some idiot, but feck, you should try to drive somewhere in eastern Europe. It's likesurvival of te fittest.

They can't all be ignorant drivers can they? First of all we must exclude the OP, and obviously me of course. Then there's you reading this, you're a good driver too. So they are not all bad.

You should try driving in Portugal, they make Irish drivers look like saints...

    It's a very simple answer my friend " they're w@nkers".

I usually envision these people crashing just ahead of me and slowly burning to a crisp while trapped while I pass by roaring my a$$ off laughing at them.
    I find that helps ;)

    This happens everywhere.

E.G. Tuesday this week was coming back from work, came down the slip road to join the motorway with a car in front of me, car is doing 30-40km/h.

Long story short, they end up joining the motorway at 30-40km/h with cars travelling around 120-130km/h, I slow down to about 10 km/h further up the ramp until this muppet fecks off and its clear to pickup speed and join the motorway.

Guy behind me starts to flash lights, beep horn, shout out the window, all sorts.

In this story, i'm the asshole.

But i'm not going to drive up behind some langer in a Kia and risk a joint death with them.

I really really really hate these people...if there was every any justification needed to show slow drivers are equally as dangerous as speeding drives you'll find it there.
Personally I'd like to drive up beside them, have them roll down the window and then lean out of my car and punch them in the head.

You are suposed to pull into the overtaking lane to allow traffic to merge. The honda left room for you to pull into, the saab was driven by an asshole. I'd say that the incident beside the truck was the honda pissed off at saab tailgaiting him. Why everything else happened I don't know, did you do something else to piss them off?

    No you're not.

It's good manners to do so but you don't have to.

What gets on my tits is when im at traffic lights and it takes a couple of seconds for it to the register for the guy in front of me to take off instead of maybe paying attention. Somebody at the back usually ends up not making it through the lights as a result, drives me crazy. Find the drivers outside of Dublin to be this way, especially Galway

Sorry, but that video made me laugh my nuts off here. That road is clearly made of oil and danger. In Soviet Russia, Car drive you!

OP, I used to lose my rag at every single arsebag on the road. But at the end of the day, as long as you make it to the end of the journey, happy days. Just leave them to it.
I find myself sometimes trying to be 'competitive' when driving, some stupid macho ****, but it's ****ing retarded and I've made myself stop doing it.

Just shout out some curse words at them, maybe beep your horn, but keep your distance and let them wreck their own car, not yours. It's not worth it.

At the risk of drawing ire (most of my road time is on a bicycle) I'm going to disagree with the sentiments like the OP's. While there are some ignorant road users, they're in the minority. Purely anecdotally, I'm seeing a rise in courtesy from other road users (more space, drivers acknowledging me trying to give them space to get by, drivers letting me turn or cross the road). Irish drivers are generally friendly and try to let others on their way. I've been in countries where the road culture is horrendous and others where it's exemplary (we're at neither end of the scale here but certainly not in the lower part).

If you consider Irish driving to be deplorable take a trip to portugal - taking your life in your hands on roundabouts, straight roads - just have a look at people overtaking when there is now room - you'll learn pretty quickly how to avoid accidents!
