Howya guys, I have a 01 E39 530D auto. An orange indicator light has appeared to the left of the service level indicator lights, it would be directly under the "P" (Park) on the automatic transmission indicator ... any ideas ? .. I've had no luck in the manual ..Cheers

Not too sure which light you're talking about - can you pin point it here?

I have the same warning light on my E38 that comes on on start up (but then goes off as it should) but I never knew what it's for. I've checked the E38 manual too but it's not on that either!

After a little lot of time on the googles the two most popular answers are A) reminder of inspection 2 service or B) change brake fluid.

EDIT: almost definitely brake fluid change reminder. Apparently this symbol has never been listed an a BMW manual - bizarre!

Yeah completely weird that there's no mention in the manual of it ... brake fluid replacement, with a suggested coolant flush - seemingly it's a date driven reminder .. either 12 months or 24 months after a reset of service level indicators depending on which model Beemer you have..

Speaking of odd sysbols and warnings not being documented in the manual, My Alfa 147 flashes that brake fluid is low when in fact the brake pad is wearing thin....no mention of it in my manual.

    Very weird

That light on the BM indicates that time dependant service items are due rather then a specific item.

Brake fluid is the most common though as its due every 2 years.
