Is anyone here taking part in the inaugural edition of the Haute Route Sportive next week from Geneva to Nice: http://www.hauteroute.org/en/ ?

I won't be there myself but would love to follow the progress of anyone who is taking it on as well as get any and all feedback about the event. It looks like a great event.

I decided to bump this old thread rather than start a new one. Did anybody watch the programme about the above event last night on Eurosport? Very enjoyable and also very tempting but am unsure if I would be fit for it.
The reason for the post is that there was a one-legged cyclist competing (or participating) in it and he got up all the Cols and I think completed the week. He was literally cycling single-legged without any aid for the 2nd pedal. I think also he was missing part of 1 arm/hand.
And I thought 'Iron Man' Mick was a hard man. This guy takes some beating.

Didnt see the program but i think this is the guy you are talking about.

He did the Marmotte in 2010 and completed it. He was an animal with a one leg like i have never seen before. Resembled Arnies bicep not a cyclists leg.

Dont know how he could balance let alone maintain forward momentum over those climbs. The descents into corners must have been knarly too.

The support he was getting on the Alp was unbelievable as you can imagine.

I saw it and its some route would love to give it a go sometime looks like a real challenge. After seeing the guy with one leg you would be less inclined to feel sorry for your self when suffering on the bike. That was unbeliveable.

Don't know if it was the same cyclist or not but there was a guy motoring up the climbs of the Etape in 2007 with one leg as well. Very impressive, and it was a doozie of an Etape in the Pyrenees that year.

A one-leg cyclist did the Etape du Tour a few years back. I have it on DVD.
