is it possible to get a fairly decent laptop for this price??
Hmmmm..... there are so many ways to interpret that question. "Decent" "for this price".

You can get good Value at any price point. But, the more you're willing to invest, obviously the greater laptop you will get. Personally I would not want to find myself at €300 for my laptop. Now, bump that by €100 or so and we can start talking Sandy Bridge i3s and such with not terrible specs. Don't get me wrong if you just need a "Big Boy's Netbook" there's a lot for €300, but if you actually need a laptop, aim higher.

Here you go. I got one of these recently:

€342. Very pleased with it. But watch the cashback issue. The trackpad is not great but I use a wireless mouse so not the end of the world.

Its is a very solid laptop indeed. If you are looking to spend a bit less the G570 is a little less polished around the edges as the more budget sibling, (and has an i3 instead of an i5 obviously). There are other version of it with slightly more RAM, bigger HDDs that go up to about £400
