Help please! VW Golf M4 manual gearstick came off.

Looking for some help.I'm only starting out driving and the gear stick/lever came loose within the cover.When I change gear it just pulls off but I can push it back on.Got a right fright!Any advice of what to do would be much appreciated.

Your knob came off in your hand??

Hate that!

Mine was loose, can't remember how I tightened it, will have a look when I get a chance

Do you mean the knob came off the stick, or the whole stick & knob came loose ? The latter happened to me once years ago in a Mk3 Cortina.

The latter.Looking around online and think its the linkage.Going to go to the garage with it.Too risky.
