I *think* so, but if no one comes up with more info try TDIclub or passatworld.

You can block it off, but it will still bring up a fault code and the engine management light. VW's rely on the air mass meter to tell if the egr is working correctly. If the egr is activated, then the air mass reading should drop. If you block it off the car's computer will flash an error because it's activating the egr valve actuator but the airmass reading is not dropping, hence the warning light and "check emissions workshop". You won't damage the car by blocking it, but the light will stay on. Easiest thing to do is disconnect the vacuum hose from the egr valve, but this wont help if the egr is stuck open. To block it off completely use a bit of an old metal number plate instead of the gasket on the egr feed pipe.

    Hope this makes sense.

someone said it wouldnt work on the 03/04 tdi but not sure,

actually fitted a tuning box purchased on ebay and EM Light and emissions workshop both went out and power was also up a fair bit but it only lasted 2 - 3 days and went back to square one again

anyone know why tuning box worked like a dream for few days then bang doesnt work anymore, very strange

Your ecu goes into what's knowing as limp mode

I think its a calculation as mentioned before. So your tuning box was fooling the ecu, an the ecu was re-calculatiog.
I disconnected the egr valve but I couldn't live with the "emmissions workshop" light and beep on startup. Mine was a PD130 TDI (04).
I could disconnect the egr and the warning light wouldn't show for a day of two.
Tried this a few times and every time after a day or two the warning beep and light would eventually come on, but the gap was the communication to the ecu and a calculation adjustment afaik.

Why are you looking to blank the EGR valve?

I can't vouch for the OP but I was doing it to stop the plumes of black smoke under load.
Couldn't be bothered after the hassle with warning lights etc.

I blocked the vacuum pipe to the EGR valve months ago and have had no issues
