Hi, leaving for LA on Fri, connecting through Heathrow, flight from Dub to Heathrow is with Aer Lingus and then from Heathrow to LAX with Air Newzealand. How or when can I can find out if my bag will be sent straight through? issue 2, flight lands arrives at 14:55 and flight to LAX leaves at 16:15, now arriving and departing flight are both MEANT to be leaving same terminal, i.e terminal one, but Im just wondering at this stage, whether I should even bother with a checked bag and just bring a carry on one?

If both flights are booked on the same ticket then the bags will be send through to L.A.

Call aerlingus to check if you need to.

its unlikely that your LAX flight will leave from T1, more than likely T5. 1h 20m transfer time will be tight enough [especially if you get queued coming into LHR]. Recommend you request a forward seat on your Aer Lingus flight to get ahead and familirise yourself with the transfer route between terminals here

Terminals 1 or 3 to Terminal 5 Use Heathrow Express trains for a free transfer between Heathrow Central and Terminal 5. This quick, convenient service runs every 15 minutes and the journey takes about three minutes. Please ensure you board the correct train as Heathrow Express also runs non-stop to London Paddington.
Heathrow Central is between Terminals 1 and 3, which are a few minutes' walk away via underground walkways and are signposted from the platforms. The Terminal 5 rail station is in the basement of the terminal and linked to check-in and arrivals by express lifts.
Alternatively, the 441 and 724 buses provide a free transfer between the terminals, taking 10 and 20 minutes. The N9 night bus, which runs between 23:55 and 04:55 (times vary at weekends), also takes ten minutes.
Services stop at the Terminal 5 bus station (next to the terminal) and the Heathrow central bus station (between Terminals 1 and 3).
Please be advised, bus service 441 travels from Terminal 4 to Heathrow Central and also from Terminal 4 to Englefield Green. The front of the bus will be clearly marked with its destination, but if you are unsure, please check with the driver.

according to Heathrow website its T1 as the OP said

    (underlined the terminal number)
Los Angeles Air New Zealand 1 NZ
from the terminal finder page : http://www.heathrowairport.com/portal/page/Heathrow%5EGeneral%5EFlight+information%5EWhich+terminal?/

Your connection info is also somewhat lacking... :)

OP, you should ideally sit near the back of the plane, not the front. Connecting passengers (even for T1) usually go out the back of the plane onto a bus. At the bus station, take the escalator up into the terminal, and go through security. If you don't already have your LA boarding pass, go to the BMI (Star Alliance) transfer desk and they'll give it to you. If you check a bag they'll probably want to see your Aer Lingus boarding pass so they can take note of your bag reciept that is stuck on to it.
