Didn't you know, "Money is the Root of All Evil"

The above quote is often touted by people who value attributes other than basic monetary value. I do not agree. It is my sole conviction that you should claw the most money you can until the day you die. Money is all that matters. The socialists and the naysayers may say different, but it's foolish to presume money isn't the most important part of life. You won't starve from all that other wishy washy touchy feelings crap:pac:

Anybody left feeling the last sentence makes no sense?

Split messages never started a revolution OP.

If this post is any indication, people who want money/have money (whichever group the OP falls into) are unimaginative idiots who can't understand what a song is about.

A student once went to his Buddhist teacher and asked him "where does evil begin?"
The teacher replied "Look at your feet."

If only I'd considered that, now I know the song is in 7/8 time I find your post far less confusing. Kudos OP, you've shown me up for the fool I am.

Religion would appear to be the actual route of all evil.

Religion can lead to mass wealth though.

Many people often modify the statement to "love of money is the root of all evil". Kriss Krisstofferson certainly does in the song "Love of Money".

it should be/ is 'love of money is...'...

Being a pedantic sort of chap, I think I should point out that Money is not the route of all evil, the correct phrase is "The Love Of Money Is The Route Of All Evil"

Money in itself has no evil nor good intent.

Sorry about that. I will go back to my darkened cell and sip a bit more apple juice now.

Nothing wrong with accumulating money but remember that there are no pockets in a shroud. Save Save Save Spend Spend Spend!

It's always good to check out the original quote, there are many translations. I doubt anyone would disagree with this version.

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.

Well, as Dorothy Parker said, "you can't take it with you when you go - and if you could, it'd probably melt"

I prefer the phrase "money is the root of all evil" because that actually makes sense. Money, paper money/banknotes, is often primarily made using cotton paper.

Cotton, therefore is the plant from which money is made and as we all know, cotton when grown exhausts the soil much more than similar fibrous plants such as flax and hemp. The reason that cotton is used more than, say hemp (which is quite a useful material) is that cotton barons were quite powerful in the 19th century and together with their influence in politics, they were able to discredit the widespread planting of hemp, predicting that cannabis use would spiral out of control.

The root of the cotton plant is what causes the problem...it drains the land of nutrients much more than hemp or linen ever would.

    DON'T BUY COTTON!

money is the best thing you can own (except precious metals, which money can buy)

there is no problem that money cant fix that anything else can.
money helps you : get away with commiting crimes, gives you more say in the community, helps you keep people in jobs , lets you have nice things, makes women like you more

If you're going to amend it to "Love of money is the root of all evil", you may as well say desire is the root of all evil, because that's what money represents — things we want

Unless one of them is a big black van and the other is a white corvette, both decorated with a red stripe.
Then it's perfectly acceptable, but they do accomplish different things.
Anywho... OP I got quoted €700 by Tesco online (23, 1.4 '99 Polo). Rang them and it jumped to about 1,500.
Then I got a quote from Lloyds via Insure.ie (I think? I can't really remember the specifics to be honest) and i think it was 1,200 or something like that (but it was quite literally a document to say i could drive a car on the road legally. It covered nothing).

    Woops.. Wrong thread! :o

I like money, it buys food and beer and helps out with the bills also.
