    what would dry wood chip or shredded timber be like to use as a fuel in a stove. would it be to messy or smother the fire

    It would be messy. It would smother flame quite a bit. It would be messy to load. Try some sawdust in your stove and see what it does.

    It would burn too quickly like paper would be great to start a fire though better than kindling and cheaper too.
