My company are looking for me to go over to Trinidad for 6months to work on an infastructure project.
Has anyone been there and have any advice?

Was there for a short time in 2010. Didn't get the warmest of welcomes.
At immigration the official wouldn't let me enter the country as I didn't have an onward ticket.
Allowed me into the country for 5 days when I booked an onward ticket.
The capital Port of Spain has fancy parts and poorer parts. I was staying in the centre. The park outside the place I was staying had some people living in a tent in it.

One of the guys saw me at a cafe and came over looking for money, said he knew I was staying in a place on the square. Not a very comfortable situation.

Another guy tricked me into giving me a tour of an area of the city, then asked for money. Acted like he was doing his bit for the tourist board.

Overall the feeling of not being welcome was the overwhelming one.
They do get some stunning sunsets though.
Didn't make it to Tobago in the short time I was given in the country. Tobago is meant to be more beautiful than Trinidad.

Violent crime is an issue in T&T.

Trinidad and Tobago are chalk and cheese. Tobago is safe, friendly and beautiful. Trinidad is much biggervand has a higher crime rate.

I've only ever passed through the airport, but from what I gather, if you pick the right part, Trinidad can be very nice and the oil industry has created a fair bit of wealth in certain parts.

If I was offered a posting there I would jumpvat the chance, if only to nip over to Tobago every weekend for the diving.
