PS3 Fails to read discs, any suggestions?

    To sum up my story, I got a copy of Uncharted 2 from GAME and I put it into my PS3 and the PS3 broke mid update, now it wont read discs, so then I tried it in my Uncles PS3, I got about 30 minutes gameplay out of it before it crashed mid cut scene and now that PS3 wont read discs, when I mean discs I mean everything, CD's DVD's etc.

    I have tried system reset restore refurbish, anything beginning with 'Re-' basically, and nothing worked, I tried using a bluray lens cleaner, no help, I dont think the discs are actually spinnning in it.

    I am an xbox gamer but none the less its a pain when I want to play Metal Gear Solid 4 or something not on Xbox.

    Any suggestions or will I have to send my PS3's off to sony and pay them €150 for a new Lens?

    I am not so familiar with the ps3 hardware but you could try clearing the game update cache or restoring the console to factory settings? (be sure to back up personal data)

    Also, does the disk have any scratches or cracks/ basically anything that looks out of the ordinary?

    One thing you shouldn't do is try it in another PS3 :)

    Is there any symbol in the top right when a disc is inserted?

    Try resetting the blu ray drive.Hold down the eject button for about 10 secs.

    Don't know if you have tried this yet, but it's worth a go. Had a similar problem a few months ago and did this:


    1. Turn off your PS3, the red light will be visible.

    2. Hold down the power button on the PS3 until it turns green and keep holding until it turns red again.

    3. Do the same again as step 2, but this time hold the power button down longer until you hear the PS3 beep twice.

    4. Let go of the power button and on the TV you should see six options listed.

    5. Select the third one and only the third, selecting any other option could lead to your hard drive being formatted.

    This happened with mine a while back. Had to replace the laser.
