    Hi all,

Firstly, I would like to apologise if this is in the wrong place..

I have a question, if anyone can answer it that would be great..

I work part time.. well if thats what you want to call it!

There are some weeks I could work one day or sometimes 2 and then I could go for 3 to 4 weeks without working.

So if I work one day I would get €50 and two days €100 etc...

Do I have to pay tax on that money?

    Thanks :D

    There's long and short answers.

    The short one is "yes".

A kind of medium sized one is that your tax credits will probably be more than the tax you need to pay, so it's very likely that you won't actually be paying anything. (Tax-credits are the imaginery-numbers that Revenue use to make sure that the first XXX of what your earn each year is tax-free).

You do need to get your employers registration number, and call Revenue and tell them you've started working there. This is important in terms of getting your tax right AND getting your PRSI "stamps" paid.

If you are genuinely self-employed it's a different story ... let us know if you are, and I'll move this to the Tax forum.

    Thanks Justmary,

I'm not self-employed.. I've worked for the same company for 10 years and last year my days were cut to 2 per week and over the year the days have just got less and less... :(

Try work out what you would earn a year, based on current trend. Then fill this out. It will give you an indication.
