Ok so everyone else gets to ask fellow "Boardies" about their new laptop needs so I feel that I should be afforded the same luxury! But seriously I could go through all of thr threads here and not understand a thing.

I'm going to college in September (yaay the results are out tomorrow) and I need a laptop for said place. I will be using it mainly for assignments and going through the internet. I probably won't be doing too much more with it. (I know how to use a computer but really wouldn't be too tech-savvy)

One question I have is whether laptops are like mobiles. If I want a new phone I just go in and get one of the cheapest ones available. Is it the same with laptops? Are the cheapest ones really that worse than the dearer ones?

Anyway I'd like some advice from all you guys and gals in laymans language please (I had to look up RAM on Google just to see what it is!). I suppose a good battery life would be all the better. Is there anything else I might need?

My brother is working in Saudi Arabia and he can get laptops cheaper over there apparently. But I would still be grateful if you could suggest the best laptops in the
    1) less than €500 price range
    2) €500-800 price range
    3) €800-1,100 price range.

I know I probably sound dense here but the simpler the language the better for any advice!

    My appreciation in advance.
