I am wondering is anyone can clear something up for me.

On the BETA application form there is section to complete as to whether or not you recently received a redundancy payment.

What I want to ask is does anyone know what the defintion of recent is. I have gotten 2 different answers from SW office. One said up to a year ago another said at anytime in your life - think she may be way off there.

Personally I think they mean up to a year ago as if you have you can access BETA immediately.

Does anyone have any clarification on this thanks.

Its if you have received redundancy in the past year.
From section 1.12 of the guidelines:
Persons awarded Statutory Redundancy under Irish legislation may have immediate access to the BTEA scheme, (or within one year of the award of the Statutory Redundancy), provided an entitlement to a relevant Social Welfare payment is established prior to commencing an approved course of study.
