Want to delete my Facebook account but want to stay in touch with friends....

Okay so I'm thinking of deleting my Facebook account. I've had enough. More hassle than it's worth. Thing is, I've family and friends all around the world and it's a great way of staying in touch with them and send them a quick message to say hello, share photos and I wouldn't have enough time in my day to email them all like that plus no one responds to email anymore...it's all through bloody Facebook! How would I stay in touch with everyone but delete my account.

Anyone else feel like they're kind of stuck using it even though they essentially hate it?

Gmail + Picasa Web Albums. Sorted.

Put the people you don't fancy staying in touch with on limited profile or move to Google+ and don't bother adding dead wood.

People seem to email through Facebook now....and yeah, I do call them.

Why do you hate it?

Why not remove everyone apart from your family and friends that you want to stay in contact with, and just use it for chatting to them, and set your profile to private.

Btw, your posting this in After hours, you do realize that right?

Though about getting rid of my own as well., but for the same reasons....
I have a couple of overseas friends & family I would like to stay in touch with every now and again...

I am a bit tired of seeing the same rubbish from the bell-end down the road who is under the impression he has an audience... I'm not sure how he got by without it..

I think FB will reach tipping point soon.... the point at which it becomes yesterdays news and people will just switch off...

I don't post on it...anyone I want to talk to, I txt..
Anyone's mobile I don't have, I don't want...

Delete those you don't want on Facebook and make your profile private.

Whatsapp for text messages, great for group texts.

If you don't have the persons mobile number then they aren't a real friends now are they?

FB will die a death, Yahoo Profiles, MSN profiles, Bebo, MySpace all pretty much dead to the average user. Facebook will be next, Google+ will take over from it.

In fairness, I don't think asking people this question makes me an attention seeker...I don't get that logic. I'm just wondering is anyone else sick to the teeth of it?

The reason I don't like it is I'm bored of it. I've been on it since 2007 and I've had people misunderstanding what I've said written in text, mostly from people I don't want to lose touch with and who are close to me, so they'd be mighty peed off if they knew. I find the whole format irritating and I hate the fact that most of my communication is done through it. I was a defender before but now I'm not. I'm more curious as to how people who don't have it stay in touch with people who depend on it?

Not being on Facebook does not mean that you're going to be out of touch.

A lot of what's on Facebook is stuff that you probably have no interest in knowing or would be told in time anyway.

And that can't happen if you're using email?

Your problems seem to stem from the way you're using Facebook, not from Facebook itself. If you want to use Facebook as purely an email client, it's quite easy to do that. If you want to use it purely to share photos, it's quite easy to do that too.

delete the dud friends, change your name on fb right away to something only you and your real friends know,delete your profile pic and put up something annon, then set profile so only friends can view it..

done.
