    Hi

My daughter has secured a place in a plc level 5 course in animal care

Depending on tomorrows results, should she repeat her leaving or is this level 5 course any good?? Can she apply to college next year with this course

Look forward to your advise and comments

Level 5 is good enough to get into college/uni, although I would recommend that she try and get as many distinctions (above 80%) as possible because the more she has the better chance she would have to getting a place.
The good thing about a FETAC course is it gives you a better understanding of the course you are wanting to study at a degree level.

    It depends.

You should research the PLC/FETAC Level 5 course and the courses it leads onto. I'm guessing that she would be interested in progressing onto Veterinary Nursing in an IT. If so, she would need to get all distinctions in her course, as the ITs only have a very small number of places reserved for FETAC students under the Higher Education Links Scheme e.g. Letterkenny only has 2 places reserved for FETAC students.

Failing this, she could progress onto a FETAC Level 6 course in animal care, if available and then progress onto an IT.

Alternatively, if she decides that this area isn't for her, she can use her module results as points to get into other courses in colleges that operate the Pilot Scheme.

One advantage of the Level 5 option is that she will have a certificate after one year, which is more than she would have after one year of a 3rd level course.

If she definitely wants to go into this area, repeating the LC is more straight-forward, as if she gets over the points, she will definitely get the course.

The students who do well on the course I teach are the ones who prefer self-motivated assignment work to final exams, who simply weren't motivated enough for the LC but who are v interested in the course they are doing and who excel at work experience.
