Grant Being Assessed by former County Council

    Hi Guys,

I got a grant from Leitrim County Council 6 years ago when I lived there and went to NUIG, the course did not work out and I dropped out after 1st year and joined the workforce and moved to Galway and I have been here ever since in full time employment.
Now I want to try a course in Limerick and applied through the proper channels and Galway CoCo have sent my app to Leitrim for assessment!

My question is why cant Galway CoCo deal with it and does'nt it make sense that Leitrim will say he does not even live in the County why should we give him a grant?

anyone shed any light? has this happened to anyone else?

I called Galway CoCo and under new guidelines issued to them by the "dept" you have to go back to any previous awarding authority to reapply for a grant, it used to be that you would apply to the local authority your were living in during the previous october.
i made the point i have been living in Galway for 5 plus years, she said it would be the same if it was 20 years ago since i received a grant.

i was assured that my application will be assessed on its own merits i.e. income etc and not on the address listed on the application.

Perhaps this is to stop fraud such as claiming two grants or not telling all of your previous qualifications etc which might of been overlooked in the past.
