"National Steriotypes. Good or Bad. Are any of them even accurate?" says Paddy Irishman to the Bartender as Messrs English Man and Scotsman scratch their chins and wonder.

What's the reason for being reasonable?

    Is that an unreasonable question?

    Just doin this for clarity.
A stereotype is a popular belief about specific social groups or types of individuals. The concepts of "stereotype" and "prejudice" are often confused with many other different meanings. Stereotypes are standardized and simplified conceptions of groups based on some prior assumptions.

    Wiki

Stereotype is not the same as prejudice.
    prejudice

    1. an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.

2.any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable.

3.unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, especially of a hostile nature, regarding a racial, religious, or national group.

    No

Also typo in thread title won't go down well here.

There is no common denominator with people no matter what they are saying in the Roma gypsy thread, there will always be exceptions.

"Imagine a perfect Europe! In this dream all the police are English, the mechanics are German, the cooks are French, the lovers are Italian and everything is organised by the Swiss. And now lets have a look at Hell: the police are German, the mechanics are French, the cooks are English, the lovers are Swiss and everything is organised by the Italians."

And in both contexts, everyone else is Irish.

I dunno, stereotypes only exist because there's at least some truth to them imo.

The Romas are not a nationality.

    They have no nation.

They're just a tribe who roam around europe begging & stealing.

    In short.

    Parasites.

    No exeptions.

Yeah, I just finished up a mound of potatoes and I'm sipping on Jameson, filled with a sense of melancholy. Some stereotypes are fairly accurate.

Chucks post states that a sterotype is confined to nationalities, if you don't believe there is a single decent Roma gypsy fine I can't prove otherwise.

You can destroy that quote too :

"Imagine a perfect Europe! In this dream all the police are English, the mechanics are German, the cooks are French, the lovers are Italian and everything is organised by the Swiss. And now lets have a look at Hell: the police are German, the mechanics are French, the cooks are English, the lovers are Swiss and everything is organised by the Italians."

Police are German - Eh, they're not THAT bad unless you're talking 1930s German.

Mechanics are French - France has some excellent engineering - Airbus, Concorde, the TGV, Alcatel telecommunications, the list goes on and on...

the cooks are English - So, Jamie Oliver, Keith Floyd, Nigella Lawson, Delia Smith, Gordon Ramsey, Marco Pierre-White, Rick Stein, again.. I could go on and on and on..

Swiss lovers - ... could be some good ones!

Italian organisers - If the Roman empire's anything to go by, they might not be THAT bad!

This is what I think to be honest. I wouldn't tar all people from a certain country with the same brush, but the culture you were brought up in has a large impact on your personal qualities
