I have my test tomorrow and was just doing final checks on the car, I noticed that the outside thread of the tyre is very worn but I checked the inside threads and they are well above the minimum legal requirement of 1.6. Is it possible the tester wont take me out because of this?

its possible but not probable, probably your tracking or something

It doesn't sound great to be honest. Is it just one tyre? If it is i'd think about putting the spare on.

Yeah its just the one tyre, the spare tyre is not usable. My husband says its worn due to the wishbone?
Should I get a new tyre in morning I would hate to have test cancelled.

If it's very bad, the tester may refuse to go. probably won't be spotted unless he asks you to show him how you'd check thread depth or he looks at it closely.

    Good luck tomorrow!

With a test at €85 a go is it worth the risk for a tyre that needs to be changed anyway.

One thing is that the thread only has to be 1.6mm for 75% of the tyre, can only find a UK site but it's the same here. But what the tester thinks is safe is a different mater.

Thanks for all the replies, I got the hubby out of bed this morning and he is getting new tyre now.
All I need now is to pass the driving test :D

Best of luck! Probably best to change the tyre, it would eventually need changing anyway. That sounds like the tracking could be off - do you notice that the car pulls to the left or right while you are driving?

Try to check the tyre on the other side of the car :o

it's a nasty possition to be in,.. your probably best of getting a new tyre seeing as you don't have a spare as it is.. put the new one on and save the old one as the spare.... it's no ham having a spare tyre anways just in case....

as you say €85 is a lot of money to waste over something silly like that when you noticed it yourself...

170 euro for 2 new tyres and wheels aligned.
    But worth every penny.
Passed with only one grade 2 fault :)
