Iphone 3GS - Sync "Backup Corrupt or not working"

    Ok,

    Story is that I have been trying to get phone unlocked by Vodafone since August 1st and they have been little short of shocking in assisting me.

    Didnt get text and they told me to do a restore job. .

    So I backed up everything , restored phone and everything but my photos (at least still have them) went . .

    So I phoned them and apple several times and after the restore today (itunes crashed in middle of backing up before restore), the iphone will not sync or backup. I get the message :

    "itunes could not backup the iphone because the backup file was corrupt or not compatible with the Iphone". Delete the backup for this iphone and try again.

    I moved all my photos off my laptop ( the ones that were on my iphone when I last synced it) as they were taking too much space, I presume that wouldnt cause any issues when doing a restore from factory settings ?

    Any tips would be appreciated before I throw the Iphone out the window and stick with the piece of sh*t I have been using while trying to get it fixed!
