Curly hair?

I want to get the general opinion on curly hair. does it make you more, or less attracted to a person? does it matter? do you even notice?

my hair is naturally curly, but having straightened it a lot of the time, most people are used to seeing me with it straight. so recently when i started wearing it curly again, I got to see what my friends think of it.

most prefer it straight it seems.also i tend to get more attention of the male variety when it's straight.

so my question is, do girls look better with straight hair?

Here's an article (if anyone wants to read it) that basically concludes that it doesn't matter, but that's in terms of getting to know someone, whereas I'm talking first impressions/attraction.

My bf has a mop of curly hair, I love it. :D

I have naturally curly hair myself and general consensus seems to be curly=cute and straight=sexy.

Depends on the person. Sometimes curly looks better sometimes straight hair looks better.

ok well lets pick an example so. the girl in the article - curly or straight?

When I was around 21 my hair decided to switch from wavy to curly, and I grew it out into a sort of Mika/Kooks-esque mop.

It gets a lot of positive attention, requires absolutely zero maintenance (wash/condition every second day) and needs to be cut only three or so times a year. I have to say it's grown on me in every way possible.

Curly hair can be be cute on a chick if it's done right. Worn badly it just makes you look a mad cat lady.

The girl in the photo is very attractive, she could wear her hair in pretty much any style and it would suit her. prinz gave you your answer, curly hair just doesn't suit some girls.

If you had a face like MH licking pee off a nettle you'd be better off keeping it short and straight.

Now that I looked at the article. It's really six of one and half a dozen of the other. But............if I was forced to answer. Curly.

I have naturally curly hair, I used to straighten it a lot, but these days very rarely. I've found a mix of opinions. My colleagues always comemnt when it's straight, they'd be girls who are quite into fashion. My friends tend to prefer it curly, they'd be mostly hippies! So I guess it depends who ya ask.

    Curly.

I've got ringlets, looks like I should be on board the fucking Good Ship Lollipop or something, it's retarded. On a girl, I'm not particularly fussed. My ex kept her hair very short and is absolutely gorgeous.

Generally speaking I prefer girls with straight hair. Curly hair suits some but not all. Its like short hair on girls! To me there are very few girls were short hair suits! But thats just my preference.

so in general, on good looking girls it's grand. not so good looking, it's dodgy.

I wouldn't say that. I think it just depends on stuff like the shape of the face, yadda yadda.

A lot of girls do, there seems to be a definite strong opinion that straight hair is sexier for going out and neater or more professional for work.
Even when I go to the hairdressers they're stunned when I ask them to dry it curly.

I have super straight hair, would love it to be curly sometimes.

I've poker straight hair, my boyfriend has really curly hair (it gets out of control when he needs a trim!). I really like it, prob just cos it's so different to mine!

Yeah. It's like clothing, kind of, some stuff just works better on someone else, some people are lucky and seem to be able to make anything work.

Op, do you really care what the blokes think? Wear it how you like and what makes you feel more comfortable.

I have curly hair and straighten it sometimes and leave it curly other times. Most my friends prefer it curly. I like it straight for something different. It's not a good idea to straighten your hair every day anyway as it makes it really dry and brittle over time.

I care about looking my best, with things that suit me. but i didn't mean this as a discussion about me tbh. I'm more interested in hearing what other people think of it in general.

Straightened my hair for a good 5,6 years non stop, thinking that my hair was disgusting curly.

Tied it up wet one day, let it down and wah-la - I actually in fact have nice curls :) All my friends said it's wayyy nicer curly. It only curls at the ends really.

Add this to the fact that I'm a redhead, I'd like to think it's fairly rare :P

I have curly hair and I wear it curly most times, unless its a special occasion I will straighten it and curl the bottom of it, because dead straight hair doesnt suit me at all.

As for the girl in the article, she looks younger with curly hair.

I prefer straightened hair. Though if a girls hair is slightly curly like the girl in the article in the OP it wouldn't really put me off either.

But really curly frizzy type hair would put me off.

similar to myself, i had it straightened, and was wearing a hat, when it started lashing raining, and the ends went all curly. wearing it curly on and off since.

not all really curly hair is frizzy though.

I have naturally curly hair but always wear it straight as I think it looks neater and more groomed, but recently I've started leaving it curly and the reaction from both men and my female friends has been really positive. Plus ZERO effort involved....I think i've been converted back to my natural self!

I have naturally curly hair but used to go to hairdressers every week and get it straightened coz its too thick for me to do myself. Since lost my job tho I wear it curly most of time but get it straight when go to hairdressers. Most of my family and friends prefer it straight but my bf prefers it curly coz it reminds him of when I was a teenager and he was crazy bout me back then.

On the subject of hair and fellas, do any of you lads have longer hair than ur oh? Or girls does ur fella have longer hair than you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,443 ✭✭✭Bipolar Joe

Used to when I was with my ex. She loved it. Looking back at pictures though, I looked a fcuking mess with the long hair.

i've had curly hair since i was one and if i'm bothered to style it properly it looks ok but other times i hate it i just tie it up and leave it
it wouldn't bother me if my OH had curly hair though, my youngest has a mop of curls and is a b*t*h to look after

Straight looks better, curly makes her forehead look big.

I'd guess the difference in responses has more to do with the way she is holding herself, body language wise, and the difference in lighting / skin tone than it does with her hair being straightened.

I'm naturally curly my hair was exactly like this when i was a teenager. I absolutly hated it but everyone else loved it!! i was constanly stopped by people admiring my hair. In my early twenties i invested in a Ghd and have never looked back, i prefer straight hair it just looks nice and tidy.

Loose curls way better than laser straight for me anyway. One of my "big loves" had very curly hair that would hang in kinda ringlets and I really liked that(though I was in love so a skinhead would have worked too :)). Nope in general laser straight doesn't do it for me I have to say.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

so my question is, do girls look better with straight hair?

It totally depends on the girl in question. There's no hard and fast rule. Different lengths of hair suit different hair as well. But you already know that :pac:

I've seen plenty of girls that look better with curly hair and vice versa. The girls I normally like seem to have hair somewhere in between straight and curly. But it really, really depends on the person and the situation at that time.

FWIW: The girl in the picture looks better with curly hair.

I have naturally curly hair that I straighten 3 or 4 times a year. i definitely get more positive attention from men when my hair is straight. Also people meeting me for the first time think I am younger when my hair is straight.

Would love to have it straight all the time but don't have the time or money to do so

Are these men who normally see you with curly hair? If so, it might not be that you look better with straight hair, just that you look different to normal. As I said above, so much of this is situation dependent.
