hi girls, can someone help me with this. my skin is v oily and i use estee lauder doublewear then clinique superpowder dusted on top for nts out. my makeup still wears off in hot pubs/clubs though so i was going to try a "setting" product, eg mac fix it which is a spray you spritz over your makeup - clarins also do one. i've heard smashbox photo finish powder is good too though, its translucent but holds everything in place?
any recommendations? some of my friends use hairspray :O but my skin can be sensitive too so i'm not really up for that!!

Have you tried a primer to wear under your make up?
I'd recommend Smashbox Photo Finish for holding make up in place.

hey thurston, yep i've tried this but i find it makes my face kind of shiny which is the opposite of what i want! i try to avoid layering lots of things on my face to try and combat the oiliness. what kind of skin do you have?

I've a really shiney nose. I tried a product from Smashbox once and it was brilliant. Stops any shine. It was a few years ago so I can't remember the name of it. I had a look at the website. It might have been this: http://www.smashbox.com/ANTI-SHINE_2

Maybe head in and get a sample from them.

I have an oily forehead and nose and the rest is normal.
I found the oiliness improved a lot when I changed my facial products (moved from Clinique to Dermalogica) but there is still a small bit of shine which the Smashbox primer takes care of! It makes my skin go smooth and kind of matte so I find my powder just stays on it perfectly.

I wouldn't suggest using hair spray anyway!!

At the minute I'm using a translucent powder to set my foundation, it's Rimmels loose powder but I'm on the look out for something better.

    I adore Urban Decays De-slick

I use this under my make up on the oily parts of my skin, it's a mattifying gel. It's a bit pricey though!

I heard it's alright but just that, especially for the price. Plus is it me or does the packaging look really cheap?

I don't really have any suggestions but just wanted to say don't waste your money on Mac Fix + (you said Mac Fix it spray but I think you meant Fix + ?). It isn't going to work in the way you want it to as it doesn't actually "set" makeup and doesn't make it last longer. It looks and feels like water in a spray bottle and people often use it after foundation and powder to take down the powdery look, but thats about it.

Are you moisturising before your foundation? If so, maybe that's whats not sitting on your skin right and not allowing the foundation to set and last? I use ELDW and it last ages on me. Are you putting on enough/too much and what are you using to apply it?

glad i found that out before buying it! because my skin is so oily i use idealist by estee lauder its a light kind of serum thats sposed to help enlarged pores etc as all the moisturisers i've tried during the day are just too greasy and my makeup lasts even less time! so i use that, let it set into my skin then apply doublewear with a foundation brush then dust over with superpowder at the very end. im 32 so i've been battling this for yrs at this stage, maybe this is the most "controlled" i will get my skin at this stage!

have you tried using a mineral powder foundation, I've had very oily skin for years and find this is the only thing that works. it looks very natural and doesn't slide off my skin like ordinary foundations. i'm now 40 and my skin is still oily - not as much though - but the benefit is that everyone still thinks I'm in my early 30's, oily skin thankfully doesn't seem to wrinkle much!!
