Republic of Ireland midfielder Aiden McGeady could be set for a huge money transfer to fellow Russian side Zenith St Petersburg.

According to Reports in Russia Zenit are closing in on a breathtaking 27 million pound deal for the Spartak Moscow winger, who’s has impressed in Russia since leaving Celtic this time last year.

Should the move go through then Celtic would also benefit after it emerged that the Glasgow outfit negotiated a sell on clause in their deal with Spartak Moscow guaranteeing 10 per cent of any amount above the original figure. That would mean that Celtic get 1.7 million of the 27 million transfer fee.

Zenit are the current league champions, have loads of cash and will be taking part in the Champions League. For a player of McGeady's ability, I hope this move goes through, he deserves to be playing at this very highest of levels.

Record fee for an Irish player if it goes through surely? Be great for him if it does anyway.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

It must be becoming common practice in Russia to add an extra naught at the end of every transfer fee/wage proposal.

£27M for McGeady, €430,000 weekly wage for Eto'o

    LOL.

Zenit must have more cash than sense.Either that or too much vodka.

    It's a load of s**t.
Press-service of "Zenith": The club is not interested in McGeady

    14.08.2011 16:19

In the "Zenith" refutes rumors that have appeared in the British press, that the St. Petersburg club is interested in midfielder allegedly Moscow "Spartak" McGeady and is willing to pay him 30 million euros.
"All this is nothing more than transfer rumors that are circulating in large quantities. None of which 30 million is not out of the question," - said "Fontanka" the spokesman "Zenith" Evgeny Gusev.

Apparently Villa have an £18 million offer in for him.

    LOL no chance of that

Zenith appears to be one of the more sensibly led Russian clubs.
Would have believed it if it were those Anzi fellas going for that stupid money.

On a related note Irish fans should be delighted McGeady is in Russia with them coming up in a crucial Euro qualifier. Having that calibur of player with the experience can do us no harm out there at all.

When reporters make up stories, they should at least try to get basic maths correct - 10 percent of 27 million is 2.7 million, not 1.7.

Edit - maths in article is correct; I, on the otherhand, iz wetarded.

Zenit did pay a similar sum for Danny a few years back so it wouldnt be that surprising if they did go for McGeady since hes been a star since moving there

10% of anything over the original figure, guessing the original fee was 10 million?

When you try to be snide on the internet you should at least try not to fail at reading comprehension.

I've altered the bolding for you:

I would imagine, as it reads to me, that it is 10% of the profit, not 10% of the total fee.

They get 10 per cent of any amount over the original transfer fee, original transfer fee was 10 million, 27-10=17, 10 per cent of 17million is .... 1.7 million ;-)
