I had orthopedic surgery on Friday to repair a spiral fracture to my fibula and a clean break to my ankle. I had a plate and six screws inserted into my fibula and two screws inserted into my ankle.

I am in a cast and non-weight-bearing for the next 6 weeks and then could be in a softer cast and partially weight-bearing for a further 6 weeks.

I just got home from hospital yesterday and I'm on a hefty mix of pain-killers for a week at least resulting in me sleeping a lot and not having much of an appetite.

I'm looking for advice on what I should be eating to aid healing and also to stop me from putting on too much weight. I'm female 5ft 3', 10 stone.

Fresh whole unprocessed food, eat to appetite.

Try to avoid the processed carbs, they are not your friend if you are not in a position to burn them off.

Something like eggs or porridge for breakfast, fish and salad for lunch, steak or chicken and lots of veg for dinner. Don't force yourself to eat, just eat when you are hungry and only as much as it takes not to be hungry. Your body will find its own balance and tell you when you've had enough, or when you need more.
