    Hi all,

I'm in the early stages of doing a charity cycle from Malin head to Mizen head (direction to be determined as yet) in September/October 2011 but as I am doing this charity cycle alone I was wondering if there were others doing similar and would like to do it as a group, for some or all of the route.

    thanks,
    Andew

Andrew that sounds like a plan buy exactly what are your plans .how many day are you planning to do it in, miles per day ,are you thinking camping all the way or b/b.
if you start with a group do you intend to finish with them .

    Hey there!

Well nothing is concrete at the moment. From what I have read might be easier to go south to north but I'm open to anything. As for finsihing with the same people..I dont mind if people want to do their own thing its cool. But from a safety point of view having a group would be cool...and having people to spur each other on etc. Hadnt thought of camping but it could work too..I have tents and trangias etc.

I would be looking to do it roughly end of september/early oct over a weekend if possible! When were you thinking?

Actually over a weekend maybe sounds a bit ambitious!

How far do you reckon you'll be able to do per day? It's 650km roughly so to do it over a weekend might be too ambitious alright. Most people normally do it in 5-6 days.

I think you are right, 4, 5, 6 days might be more like it. We'll not in any rush and if there are a few of us we can agree stops along the way in advance.

A friend of mine has a blog that details our recent 6-day trip from Mizen to Malin. Has info on route, supplies, distances etc at http://allaboutthetriple.com/

    Thanks Wer*

    Fancy doing it again? haha

Is a road racing bike the only option of could you get away with riding a road mountain bike with the narrower tyres?

its about 450 miles, i know people that did it in 3 days @135 miles per day & some did it in 5 days, consider a back up van for repairs

Has this event happened yet? I recently did Malin to Mizen and would be happy to discuss routes etc.

I did it as part of a 7 man group in March of this year starting at Malin and finishing at Mizen Head on St Patricks Day.We covered the distance over 4 days . Day 1 155 km to Enniskillen Day 2 to Birr 170 k Day 3 to Cork 175 k & Day 4 I think it was about 145 K to Mizen head. I would like to do it again but as more of a challenge possibly covering it over 3 days.
To be honest if you are doing it as a challenge as opposed to a leisure event camping in my opionon wouldnt be an option you do need the comforts of a B&B without a doubt.
Just keep in mind daylight hours ,at your proposed time of year you are losing considerably amounts of that

A service vechicle is crutial by the way.
