I am in my 40's, a little overweight and not as attractive as i would like to be. But I would still like to make the best of what I haveI have not a clue about fashion or make up. Any one got advice on where I can go or how I can find out how to make the most of my appearance?

What about a personal shopper for a day? Most department stores will have them - Debenhams, Arnotts - and Dundrum Town Centre also has the service.

Usually they are free and you're under no obligation to buy. They'll discuss your likes/dislikes, shape, trends, and then work with you to find some items that will suit you.

As for the make-up, why not treat yourself to a makeover? The deal on counters is usually a €20-45 make up application fee, which is redeemable against purchases. You can discuss with the make up artist what you're looking for and they'll advice you on the best products.

Finally, get fitted for a good bra! It can do wonders for your shape (and confidence ;) ). Personally I'd recommend Arnotts, but a lot of people on the forum have used Bramora on Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin and have been delighted with the results!

That sounds like great advice, thanks.

And check out youtube.com for make up tutorials. It's surprisingly informative and looks easy enough.

+1 on the youtube, it's really helpful.

And don't be afraid to go into shops and try stuff on for fun- you'd never know what you'd find that you like. Sometimes people are afraid on fashion- give it a whirl!

Dressing for your shape is important. Emphasise your good parts, e.g. good boobs, good legs. Although if you're not aware of what your good parts are (and don't worry, you definitely do have good parts no matter what shape or size you are!), then a personal shopper will definitely help.

Don't be afraid to step outside your normal comfort zone -whether thats a colour you always thought you could not wear or a style that you would have shunned.

I put on a bit of weight, and my whole shape changed, (for the overall better I might add) but suddenly the flared style jeans I used to wear didnt work anymore, i felt chubby and frumpy and dumpy. My sister forced me to buy skinny jeans, when I had always thought my legs were far too short for them and my booty too big, but somehow I looked way slimmer in them and now wear them constantly. It was a style revolution and I will be forever grateful for her (nice) bullying tactics! I now wear a range of colours I thought didnt suit me at all and it looks great!
