    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone on the forum works (or knows anyone who does) at Dublin Airport or perhaps a contact I could get in contact with. This is in relation to taking pictures on the apron.

    Cheers

Just what the procedure is for getting access to the ramp to take pictures of airport buildings or if indeed this is possible? Pictures will be used to create a computer 3d model of the airport

There is info on DUB website. Mind you it will cost you to take pictures/film.

    Thanks for that

    * Please note filming is only permitted in the public areas at Dublin Airport

That rules out access to the ramp then...

Can I inquire why you want ramp access for photos?
Is it for personal pics, college project or an actual career task?

    Am just curious.

What software you using and how detailed do you want it? To save you time, money and a lot of effort getting onto the ramp, you could use bing maps birds eye view, like satellite imagery but isometric-ish.

Bing is great for modeling etc but I need pictures to create textures for the models. The model will be created for Microsoft Flight Simulator using 3DS Max, here are some more of my models:

I see another company appeared to have gained access to airside as below (or else have someone working on the inside):

I was denied access by DAA on the grounds that it is an international airport and they did not have the resources to facilitate me. I was actually willing to pay for the access. Weird one

It is possible that around the time the other company got airside access (if indeed the did) in 2009 it seems, you could have to. Since then the security has ramped up significantly with the audit issues they have had etc.

The pictures were actually only taken in the past 3 months so they must have got access approved

Note the date of the thread, it was published day before yesterday. Looks like somebody is finally to doing a scenery, a proper scenery for Dublin! Thank god!

Might be worthwhile picking up the phone and asking them the story. You would think an Irish company would be able to get such access before another European company would!

Looking forward to the new version, it's going to be worth the wait :)

Or they know someone who works on the ramp at DUB and asked them to take a few snaps whilst at work.
