Passing through the Phoenix Park about an hour ago saw about 15 Ferraris of various models/years parked beside the main Áras gates. Couldn't take any pictures cos my phone battery was gone but if anyone is passing through keep an eye out, was a pretty sight! :D

There have never been any exotic car dealers in this country. There was an official Porsche $tealership in Tallaght, but they went out of business a long time ago. I'm not aware of any independent Ferrari mechanic here, but maybe there is one up north, otherwise there are several over in the UK

Doesnt joe Duffy have an official porsche service centre now?

Yep, on Rochestown Ave in Dun Laoghaire

Charles Hurst in Belfast are the official Ferrari/Maserati/Bentley/Aston Martin dealers for the island of Ireland. The provide sales and service.

A fake Ferrari is a sin against mankind

what do you think of the other items i mentioned ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,456 ✭✭✭✭Mr Benevolent

I'm not sure which is worse, the MR2 or 406 Coupe. Most of the thrill of a Ferrari comes from the noise and performance, not the looks.

so if you don't want to go to Hursts you are pretty much resigned to taking a ferry trip every time you need a major service...I like to have at least one alternative so you are not completely screwed.

Was considering something along the lines of a 355/348/328 etc...toying with the idea...always wanted a Ferrari but its a bit of a pain no one here offers service for them

out of curiosity I see a lot more Porsches around so presumably garages down south will service a Porsche despite there being no main dealer?

Except for the fact that fake ferraris look like shít. Perform like shít and in general just are shít.

Same doesn't apply to fake boobs.

Thats what my mate had to do with his Vanquish every time it broke down (which was every month, hence why he bought a AMG next).

....that adds some unexpected costs but mostly hassle to the dream

I wanted to drive a Ferrari around Ireland..not England ffs:(

You see few enough of them around here as it is without the bulk of the annual mileage I was going to put on it being on English soil

Don't want a Porsche at all but certain models do have more of a reputation for reliability...................looks like I'll have to educate myself and see what I can do maintenance wise myself.

Porsches have always been more common here. Until a few years ago there was a Porsche main dealer (as I mentioned) and since recently Joe Duffy has an official Porsche repair centre as mickdw mentioned

On top of that there are several indy Porsche specialists in the country

Unkel - have you seen the Ferrari in Lucan? It's usually in the Willsbrook area.
    Think it's 2006.

I too considered an F355 a few years back. However, the lack of service options put me off. I always wanted to own one, but it just wasn't practical. Getting it up to Belfast wasn't too big a deal, but paying main dealer service costs was the killer.

It's much more doable in the UK where there are many Ferrari Indy specialists around. There wouldn't be much scope for one in Ireland as there are too few cars to justify it.

I eventually went for a 993 which was more affordable in terms of service as there are a few Indys around the country.

At one stage, I believe Hursts were seriously considering opening a service/sales dealership for Ferrari, Maserati and Bentley in Donnybrook as the bulk of their business was from the South. However, the death of the Celtic Tiger, put an end to that.

A better analogy: a fake ferrari is like shagging a woman with a strap on.

Too small a nation for ferraris.

take out the million people or so in dublin and no one would buy one.

and of the million in dublin only a miniscule would own one. , and thats when we were buying X5s en masse for a 5 mile trip to school for the kids.

I was intending (well sort of) to buy one and I'm not from Dublin

that Porsche gayman is looking more enticing and road tax costs be damned:(

Check the wee stretch where Esker Lane meets Esker Park. It's on Esker Lane across the road from the park.
Just seems so out of place there! Beautiful car though :D

It was reported the car was driven on the public roads in Galway when it was new alright. There's evidence online that shows the car was driven on the public roads in Dublin. The car was never registered in Ireland though...

I wonder was the car driven without tax and / or insurance? I wonder what plates were on the car when it was driven here. If the car was driven by an Irish resident on Irish roads, it would have been illegal if the car was on foreign plates...

In fairness, its a Veyron.....If I was a gard I'd be afraid of that W16 engine note alone

not to mention the fact I wouldn't like to block any air getting into its radiators by standing too close to it.....I'd be afraid the thing would melt

Ferraris and Porsches are like any other car, once the warranty expires you have no real reason to bring it to a main dealer and a good independent specialist is more often than not better then a main dealer. I was looking at buying a 308/328 or Mondial last year as I almost got one about 12 years ago and always regretted not getting it. I was living in Germany at the time and although there were two Ferrari dealerships in the area I lived most people with older Ferraris took their cars to another independent mechanic who was not attached to either dealer.

I eventually ended out buying a 12 year old Porsche 911 and a much older 912, it was the same story, cars were serviced with an independent Porsche specialist and not with a main dealer. There is someone south of Dublin who does the older Ferraris and possibly Lambos, Maseratis and so on. I'm not that sure who he is but his name should be easy to find out from any Ferrari owner.

^ I'm very sure this is the guy I heard about at the time. btw if you are thinking about buying the 308/328 series the engines are surprisingly robust.

Not if the individual was domiciled outside of the state and resided within that domicile for a set period per year.
